My mother plant looks sick, any ideas?

I grow a crazy mother or two every year. You appear to hot and to bright. Raise the light 6 inches Increase the water by about 15% a day and reduce temps a few degrees. A foliar application of 1/4 tsp epsom salt water should take care of the yellow in a couple if not three days.

You could always just take a few nice cuts, use the best of that group, and create a new mother.

Sometimes they just get worn out over time.

you mentioned that you had used chemical (i assume salt based) fertilizer in the past, are you still using it?

I'd probably give a simple worm casting AACT to boost the microbial life, and then give an aloe and kelp tea foliar.

Go back one page and read. I'm not being an asshole by saying they don't wear out. Grower error usually comes into play and worn out plants get the blame.

And the clone you get that is "clone only" is likely not cut from the FIRST MOTHER EVER MADE FROM THAT STRAIN. Get my point? They get old, and start putting out shitty cuts, or the cuts roots slow, ect. You create a new mother, with a nice, new root system, roots ready to fill the NEW media...it just fucking helps man.

I checked the ph of the runoff

it was 6.9

my standard water ph is 7.2 that is what I put in the top so she dropped by .3 ph

I had a Cotton Candy mother for 2-3/4 years I had clipped thousands of times, and there are others here on RIU who have mother plants that are more than eight years old.

As long as you don't take far too many cuts at once, the plants won't degrade if you provide a consistent environment and care.

I have had similar experiences. BUT, I have never kept a mother past the 3 year mark.

My money says you can't keep a plant past a decade without the mother plant starting to lose vigor...some strains even less. Regardless of care. Anything past five years old I would really consider cloning out a new mom.

To be honest, I haven't heard of 10 years. Eight is the longest I've heard of. I was surprised with my near three year run, but due to circumstances unrelated to the grow, I had to cut her down. I was pretty disappointed. She was only 2.5'x2.5', and trimmed to look almost exactly like a stick of cotton candy. Suitable for a Cotton Candy plant

What are your root zone temps? If the floor you are growing on is ice cold, and your root zone temp is lower, the plants ability to uptake nutrients will be severely limited or halted completely. Hps can create a lot of heat, but a tent sitting on top of a basement floor can create an ice-cold rhizosphere, slowing down the soil food web, and thus nutrient cycling.
