And our homes mostly don’t have AC which doesn’t help.

My issue is that I’ve got 2 floors and the grow room is on the top floor. Being an old Georgian house we’ve got lots of tall ceiling rooms all going into a low ceiling room upstairs and it gets baking when the sun beats down.

I’ve got an intake from outside into the room. Then it goes from tent into the loft - loft is airy as shit so don’t have to worry about damp issues.

Still reaches mid twenties Celsius but I can then grow a few beans outside.

I know what you mean.

I intake from my soffits and exhaust into my well ventilated attic area.

my room is upstairs too and I have the sun beating down on my external wall where my grow is situated from around 1pm onwards. Luckily that’s my night cycle lol.

if you ever want any help to diagnose or ideas such as building an insulated room around your grow to shield it from external temperatures then let me know.

I see the same problems in summer time here where im at, my room is in a basement and the basement is shielded on 3 sides and only open to the front... you would think it wouldnt get terrible because its basically under ground and not ever really affected by the sun, oh but it does lol... i would however like to hear some ideas about upgrading to no ac (i flower from 5pm-5am) im currently using 2 diy custom LED's i built each has 288 diodes, spectrums are a custom mixture 192 of the diodes are 2700k and 96 of them are 6500k driven by 240watt meanwell dimmable drivers... i also use a 600w hps and 600w mh light un the room as well... the room is a 12'Lx5'Wx8'H. My canfan is 800cfm i have a 20inch box fan and a couple turbo force oscillating honeywell fans moving air around and my ac is 800cfm (though this variable is what i am interested in removing from the equation) and im all ears because i would love to be able to irradicate the 9amp 1200w draw off the panel from that ac lol

are you utilising a room within the basement? Tent or built room?

or utilising the whole room?

ultimately if you insulate your room (if it is a room within your basement) it will stop any ambient transfer of temps within the basement.

Your intake would need to be under 20C/68F to control your temps without AC.

Edit is your room currently utilising intake and exhaust? External intake to external exhaust?

Little update.

Ca deficiency progression has pretty much ceased.

As you can see the leaves haven’t seemed to get any worse. Because it we caught it when it had started to effect 1 leaf Each on 2 different plants.

Now for the update.

plants are currently receiving 1.4EC feed.

yesterday I switched my timers to 12/12.

as you can see I’m leaving my MH bulb in for now. This will stay for approx 2 weeks then I will switch it out for the HPS.

As I mentioned the Ca def symptoms haven’t progressed so I’m happy that they’re happy with this and I will keep with the 0.4EC of mono Ca for the time being.

during the next 2 weeks these nets should fill up pretty well I think!

So i am utilizing half the room for flower and i have a grow tent in the same space for veg as it works out the space is divided between a 8x5 flower space (open no tent) and a 4x3 veg tent... the flower space roughly only takes up a 5x5 space and all the other free space in the room is walking area to access plants, intake is passive and pulls air from outside and exhaust is dumping the air outdoors all summer and indoors all winter (yes we only have 2 seasons lol) but i dont believe i can achieve an intake air temp of 68F° or less unless i cooled the air being drawn into the room because summer time wont allow for that low of a temp even if i pulled the air from under the porch thats shaded all day. How do you keep your intake temp from going above 68F in the summer months? I have some ideas involving a cold water coil, a water proof tote, 4-6inch pvc pipe, some dc fans, and even a couple of heatsinks and i might be able to build a cold tunnel for the intake air to travel through before entering my room. Also considering a switch to full LED and taking out the HID lighting completely but i havent yet because i appreciate the results in quality from the LED's mixed with the intensity of the HID's and i dont want to have to add heat to my room in the winter time.

I live in The UK so 68F is a normal summer lmao.

A lot of my ideas I must admit are centred around UK growing where air temps are lower than other parts of the world.

you need a cool air feed to be able to keep temps stable which in the UK 8pm-2pm veg cycle doesn’t heat up much beyond 73F by that time etc.

8pm-8am flower is even better again etc.

for me for example now I’ve just switched to 12/12 I’ll be done as summer is coming to an end and autumn begins here in the U.K.


at max over summer we’ve only ever seen 33C.

then at night that can drop down as far as 18C for night times etc.

normally I would strip off the little growth im pointing at but due to their location they’re going to pop right into some of the net so they’ll stay.

Day 5 of 12/12.

I’ve been tucking each day and repositioning the growing tips to occupy new spaces in the nets etc.

plants are currently being fed 1.2EC where 0.4EC is Calcium and 0.2EC is my source water.

So only 0.6EC is base nutrients.

I have just been into my room on it’s dark cycle and switched my MH for HPS as it’s the only chance I’ll get with my kids at home to switch the light on it’s off cycle.

will update later to show pics.

I normally leave the MH in for 2 weeks but with all this COVID stuff I have to fit it around my kids lol.

I’d rather do the switch with a cold lamp rather than a hot one lol.

I’m not really updating every day as I don’t feel there’s a need unless something major happens such as the Ca def symptoms and correction which I can now confirm all Ca def progression has ceased completely and no new areas of concern have arisen.

So I will now reduce Ca levels down to 0.2.

however though I have since purchased the PLANT MAGIC CALMAG product as I couldn’t justify the higher priced MONO CA in comparison to the Calmag.

so next time I add some CalMag it will be from a Calmag product and as such I may still keep the additive at 0.4EC but I’m not too sure yet.

Plants are in straight coco (canna pro) with DUTCH PRO COCO GROW A/B with 0.2EC extra Ca. Feed EC 0.8. Water starting EC 0.2.

Seeds planted on 7-April-2020

These will be transplanted into their final pots tomorrow and I will begin some minor training along with switching to my 400w MH lamp.

I’m jumping straight from the seed start pots to the final pot quite simply to save myself the time later.

**edit** the pink straws were stem support when they were younger as they stretched a small amount which will be removed before the plant is buried into the new pot a little deeper.

if you use it don’t forget to slice the straw up it’s length to allow expansion of the stem.

Earlier than I normally like but I didn’t want to run the risk of going over my 2 weeks of MH during stretch So beggars can’t be choosers so I’ve put the HPS in.

nothing done tonight other than a few little repositions.

the 20% RH was from when my humidifier had ran out of water and I was a bit later than normal going to my room.

Shit happens lol.

general garden plastic trellis netting. It comes on a roll that’s approx 0.5m wise and about 5m long.

the squares in the net now used to be 4 small squares. I cut them to make the holes larger in size but it also had a slight negative effect and made it quite flimsy.

but because it was held on a roll it’s ended up staying with a curve lol.

definitely not by design. I would have preferred them to be perfectly straight and square.

next try with this trellis net I might cut some more but leave the smaller holes instead next time.

not sure yet.

mainly using the net for canopy control as I didn’t place the net there for very long before switching to 12/12.
