Detection by helicopter

Wouldn't the electricity use be a big tip off? I know they look for that here in Canada. Why is this house/shed pulling three times the electricity that its neighbours use?

I would think that trying to keep the temp down will be a better idea that trying to mask the heat. Choosing the right type of lighting like LED could go a long way here. But still the electrical pull....

Thankfully we get 4 legal plants so I just work with that. I had a tire slashed last summer and when a police officer came to take a look he asked for a tour of the garden and gave me some tips to keep them hidden from neighbours bc people were getting punked everywhere. Small scale though. I wish you the best of luck!

i dont think there equipment can tell the difference. It cannot see 80 degrees coming through a pipe. And if they could ? its someone growing? You cant heat your shed up to hang out in ? Yea its 2020 , i dont think they are flying around looking for very small growers.

I honestly don't know how they can justify electricity use as a way to enter someone's property unless they are already on their radar for other reasons. I used to be huge into salt water reef tanks and the 125 gallon tank I had drew more power than the tents I have going right now. My tank had a total of 760W of lighting (600W of MH and 160W of T5), another 200W from pumps, and that doesn't even include the fans that are used to promote evaporative cooling or the multiple submersible heaters throughout the tank to maintain temperature.

Also like someone posted earlier how do they know you’re not growing food.

Yes! My friend once had a cop knock at her door (after creeping around her basement windows) asking about power use and chilled out once she showed him her fish tanks! And she mentioned that the week before she swore she heard helicopters.... So electricity is likely just one of the tools they use to see if it's worth further looking in to

Like charlie said , they only use electricity if they are already onto you due to "friends an family" . They dont just go through electric bills to find growers.....too many people with fish tanks an welders. According to my bill i am 400% higher then my neighbors and i dont even grow here.

Most common use of FLIR is electricity companies looking for damaged overhead wires.
Sometimes the law go with the for dual purpose.

It costs a lot of money to take a chopper out. Some law enforcement just don't have that sort of money or give enough of a fuck about a small grow. But this depends on your local police.

You have to consider the air leaving your grow is only a few degrees over normal air temp too.

Maybe a composter would be a good place to vent into. Like 4ft deep ditch with solid plastic pipe with soil over it into a composter.
Since they can be very hot.

i may be wrong but back in the 90's , high times had an article about this and i thought it said you can use mylar to cover the grow and the FLIR cant see through it. (im not sure about mylar but im sure they make a material capable of covering the heat deteced by FLIR. im not 100% on any of this ....im just talking....
