Yesterday (8 June) we mixed and started the composting of our Super Soil


Next day knuckles (the dumpster bag that we mixed in was pretty rough)

Gloves would be a good idea . There's a lot of shit (literally) and other stuff in there that isn't the healthiest thing to get in cuts and isn't the easiest to get out from under your nails.

Checked on the Super Soil this afternoon, nice and humid in those buckets.

Started soaking a few beans all are probably over a year old but hopefully still viable.
Blueballs ->>> Fireballs x pre '97 Blue Moonshine (feminized) --------- Jelly Pie ->>> Grape Pie x Stardawg (bagseed hopefully fem)

5 of 6 beans showed tap root and were put into their starter pots.

Bean #6 popped ...and she was added to the final starter pot.

side note:

Tent did not fit into our available space. It was 1/2" too tall, so vice and hacksaw later easy mod finished. Each top corner piece lost about 1"


Hindsight moment #2 a pipe cutter (which we have) would have done a perfect job cutting those corners.

If we're journaling, we should probably document that today was the first day that the dueling experts who know nothing argued about what to do with the seedlings. It's hard when we both know everything!

Four of the kids stuck their heads out of the dirt today

Trying to remember how long they were without light after they poked their heads out. Two of them are pretty leggy. Note to us: next time, put them in the soil and keep them under the light until they pop. Maybe they'll be stockier.

bean #5 popped out this evening, although that was the last seed to crack. Three of the four Jelly Pie (lets hope they're all girls (if that IS their real strain))

We're still hoping to see that last bean poke it's head out, but I'm thinking it's time to investigate. We added dirt to the ones that were leggy. Hopefully that helps. The tent is all decked out waiting for the kids to move in.

Well, we did go investigate. Finally found the seed (surprisingly difficult when there's no taproot), it had cracked when we put it in the dirt, but it had deteriorated to the point that it just disintegrated. Owell, I'm sure the rest will be girls. Final count: 2 Blue Balls, 3 Jelly Pie.
