Best way to kill Springtails

I have springtails all over my house especially in the basement, thank god they are harmless to plants. My problem is they come under this one window sill bc they are so small. I used Diatomaceous Earth last year and it worked by spreading it under the window sill. This year for whatever reason its not working, maybe the Dia Earth went bad?? Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I need something to stop them in their tracks. What good does it do if they come into my house and die 5 hours later.

caulk.jpg
Caulk and pesticide treatment to the entrance, permethrin will last for a while and is listed for wood treatment
Skip the caulk if you mean above the sill.

Right, so treat the sill with a listed pesticide and they can't walk on it to get in.
I still think you mean above the sill and not under, which means under the window...

Springtails were walking over it like nothing...
that's strange... there is no tolerance against this because its physical damage... the diat. earth has sharp edges... I have mine for more than 5 years and it's working flawlessly... but it takes some time to kill them. I saw a household fly this winter struggling for an hour until it didn't move anymore....

I googled your question and found a few sites that say to spray the area with red cider vinegar and the acid will kill the sprintails. Also, wipe all around the area with a cloth soaked in the vinegar. They also say the root cause is typically moisture and you want to address that if possible. Bonus - Red Cider vinegar is antifungal so it can help prevent mold if you do have a moisture pocket.

I use Ortho Home Defense for doors, windows, stairs, baseboards and plumbing cutouts. It works well keeping the house fairly bug free. I also spray the home defense around the perimeter of my tent in between grows.

I spray with home defense indoors and it works ok. If i spray under the window sill at night it keeps them away for a few days... There is a product called cyanara and you spray the yard, bushes and around the foundation with it and its much better than home defense. You hook this product up to the garden hose. https://www.amazon.com/Cyonara-Garden-Ready-to-Spray-insect-control/dp/B002T4GC1Q/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2QRCZZHLIEAM3&dchild=1&keywords=cyanara+bug+spray&qid=1591741640&sprefix=cyanara,aps,480&sr=8-2

Probably killing all their predators outdoors is why the bug explosion. That stuff has a half life of 1-3 months.
Try some WD-40 oil on the sill and rails, no bug can cross that

I rather have springtails that are a 1/32" of an inch that spiders. I was traumatized by a spider like 4 years ago. It was one of those big black fast ones and it was the biggest one I ever seen. I sprayed behind my house with home defense and like 10 mins later the giant spider (abdomen bigger than a quarter) crawled up my siding 10 feet. I then sprayed it again and it came down off the siding and came at me from 25 feet away until my neighbor stepped on it.. My neighbor is 40 years old and black said he never seen a spider that big.

Ive also been severely traumatized by spiders, like awakening in bed because a housespider was on my face. Horrified I jump out but at first, couldnt find here.

or, coming home drunk and not seeing the spider hanging down from the door and I ran directly into it. Went to the mirror and saw here creeping on my head...

later on I kinda realized how helpful they actually are - because they kill flies. And flies spread diseases right onto your food etc... THOSE I hunt now - stay away from my food OR get the foot!!!

Pyrethrum , bifethrin .... any “ broad spectrum “ insecticide . Light spray over suspected entry points ( inside and out ).

Ortho Home Defense Plus works well too.

That whole family of chemicals bonds to surfaces and soil pretty tightly, doesn't run off far once applied.
Sunlight breaks it down in 5-7 days, but in soil is about 30 days, months longer on things like wood or mortar.
You really need a long low pressure wand or aerate the soil next to the foundation to get it deep
