4x4 tent: 6 x QB96 Elites + UVA + (I need help with FR and RB build)

I want to add adequate far red as well as royal blue. I don't want really want to use pucks because of the LED spacing. I'd rather build my own strips with individual LEDs if there isn't a great solution already.

I plan to lay the QB96's out according to @Or_Gro's pics/info from GC in the QB96 no-BS thread.

Are there any good alternatives to FR and RB pucks?

Or should I buy the LEDs myself and reflow them onto some MCPCBs then attach those to some kind of strip? If this is the best way to go, I would like some help in picking out the correct individual LEDs. To make sure I pick the right bin/shelf/W/qty/etc. I'll need some help with the electrical side.

Or am I in left field? If so, why?

Thank you.

Kingbrite also sell QB11 copies in 450-460, 630, 660, 730, 385

I run 4 of their qb11 730 strips in my 4x4 and they're beauty. If you wanna support away from a China, I’m sure the other options would be even better quality.

the whites on the 96 are 4000k so i wouldn't think you'd need to add blues. has a nice big blue peak already. also the whites have a lil far red in them as well. pretty nice spectrum imo

if u wanna add more far red id recommend the cutter strip airwalker linked

Has the blue I want but not the FR.

I don't want to add to the existing spectrum of the 96s, that's why I didn't choose this.

Same as hlg-60. Don't want to add to what's there really. Doesn't have 450nm.

This was new to me. They do have the 730nm I want. So that plus the hlg-11 in the blue I need might do the trick! I had seen the SolStrips that are mentioned here at RIU. Rest on that page are mixed-spectrum.

I haven't looked through everything there but looks like I could get separate strips for the FR and RB or the FR from cutter and the RB from hlg.

Bro, cutter will make you whatever you want. Even a 2 channel strip with FR one side and Blue on the other if you really fuckin wanted to.
I thought you'd know this.
Just tell em what you want, pay for it, and they'll be there in a week or so.

Cutter is a new source for me. I haven't had time to go through all of their stuff. I figured something custom would be a minimum XX order requirement so I disregarded it. Guess I'll give them a call and look further. Thanks.

How many extra LEDs do you recommend for each FR and RB spectrum in this 4x4 environment? Would 6 of each per quadrant work or will it take 12? If I could do 6 in each quadrant and they would make a custom model that has 6 FR and 6 RB, then four of those strips would do it, one in each quadrant between the pairs of 96's.

I'd say do about 15% of your total wattage. So 7.5% each color. It's not about how many leds, but how many leds you spread that wattage over.

Hi MS
my avatar shows our 285mm(1ft) strip, this has 12 leds but can be run as 2 channels of 6 leds, so we can make with CREE XPE-2 FR on 1 channel and Cree XPG-3 RB on the other, and you can either run them as 12 in series for a fixed ratio of both colours or run two drivers and control/dim each separately. You will find a FR/RB board in the variations list
Cheers

I'll be in touch. I think that would work great, separate channels. 4 of those.
Then 2 more but with half 365nm and half 385nm UVA on each, single channel.

Nvm they do.
I think you've got a good approach with those 3 per side but I really think it should be spread out to longer strips really. I don't see the value in putting them all on a 1' strip. 4' would be best but at least a 2'
