Help with mini split btus

I love my daikin. I have Mitsubishi mr slims upstairs in my living space and I have to take them apart almost twice a year to clean blower wheels and other areas because of mildew buildup. Its such a pain in the ass. Haven't had to do that once with my daikin in grow room.

It may be more to do with the dakin running constantly and the constant air flow preventing build up because of aerobic conditions. When a unit runs very seldom without airflow it can invite mold and mildew into any system

Also can be that the units upstairs run twice as often because heat rises

I have never has any mildew buildup in my AC's. Not even a slightest sign. I wonder why? They aren't expensive units. I don't see and UV light in there or anything either. Some guys put a small UV bulb or two in there to sterilize the innards 24/7.

I think my upstairs unit in living quaters were installed sloppy. I agree I shouldn't have to clean my units every year. They are pain in the ass to take apart.

Yeah but since his room is in a garage he likely needs one just to cool the empty room on a hot summer day.

If grow is in a garage w/ a window, and growing in a tent he'd probably be better off going with a window shaker for now. They wouldn't have to worry about light leaking thru window shaker a/c seeing that he in a tent.

I would never talk someone out of a minisplit provided it can fit their application, they rule.

Ya my mini split is the best investment in my grow room by far. I agree with you. I just think a minisplit 2 400s is a bit much but he could alway upgrade the lights and will still get great result regardless with a mini split

Yup I sealed up my room and a 6 in inline and carbon filter takes care of the smell. I've gotten the best results I've ever gotten after sealing up my room a couple years ago.

1100- 1300 tops. Crank it down to 900-800 towards the end of flower. I have only been having to run it 15 mins on for each hour during lights on and can keep it above 1000 ppm during all 12 hours.

I like to keep mine at the 1000 - 1200 and I ramp it down with my lights to the 600 - 800 level for ripening. I use a 200 PPM dead band. I honestly wish I could set it higher. Have it run between say 800 - 1200 with a 400 PPM dead band setting.

Well lets size equipment like the AC for the future. Figure out where you will go down the road, biggest scenario you can imagine. For me that would probably be 4kW. Of course one can use LED or whatever but one might at least consider sizing for 3kW. Also remember that overdrive wattage makes heat as well. So if you have four 1000W lights on overdrive of 1200 watts then you need to cool 4800 watts.

Just do some thinking about where you would end up in a couple years. Maybe thats 2 x 1000w and a 400 watt veg tent. Consider heat from the dehumidifier as well.

Same conclusion I came up with for this size room. I'd say 3-4k watts and 18k btu-24k btu. Since the price difference is not much between the different size units I'd just go with 24k. But some of that depends on climate I guess and how hot this garage is. But a 24k btu would for sure do it.

I agree wholeheartedly. Two tons can handle anything we could ever throw at that space. CO2 generator, dehumidifier and 4kW of HPS on overdrive (assuming a 10 x 10 and not 8x.

That said, if going with the 1.5 ton makes the budget work for a Mitsubishi and the 2 ton renders that option cost prohibitive then I would be very much on the side of the 1.5 ton Mitsubishi.

On a side note, using a WIFI controller on the AC unit one might be able to get away with the AC doing the dehumidification during the lights on period provided it's fighting enough heat load and have the WFIF controller scheduled to switch to dehumidification mode during lights out.

If the heat load is minimal (800 watts) then a dehumidifier may be required during lights on since the AC won't be pulling much moisture.

What was your all-in price for the system? I'm looking at a 24000 BTU system for a 17 * 10.5 * 7 room that has a UC4XXL13 RDWC system on 40" centers, lit with 4 * 650W full spectrum LEDs; 1/3 hp chiller; probably add-on a Quest Dual 105 for dehumidification.
