I cant believe you invested so much of your time in led rubbish.

Its a small amount of ir, nowhere near normal levels and its not even really apparent against all the othet LIGHT the LIGHT puts off.

What next leds need extra cal mag, just making up stuff and getting offended when you post spectrum charts that prove your making up stuff just to make uo for all that useless led stuff you read and pushed on oeople.

Some growers adgendas are so far off tack.

So what youre saying is that you havent tried led? Im not selling just trying to figure out how you grow at 70F with 800ppfd of white light. Can you show how?

You know its not about what the ir does to the tents temp its the leaf temp?

These are great. Get the 3100k though. I have 2. I also have HLG LED's, but my favorite is a combo of both. I just can't run the cmh as much in the summer. You have the perfect environment for the cmh though.

The cmh also gives off UV rays too, which the LED doesn't.
Excellent indeed. I used 2 of the stealth for many grows.
I have 8ft ceiling, so upgraded to the vlux verticals.

Im not offended. Youve still not mentioned what your observations are based on: what lights and conditions? Im interested not saying its impossible. You seem really upset about something here. Agendas?
Ive not posted any spectrum charts just tthe vpd which is basic in horticulture. Go and look it up or ask a bothanist.

Edit: Also maybe note that i recommended a CMH?!?

Vpd now, look im just a grower i dont need most of the stuff you keep pushing.

I saw a lot of you doing hard led pushing for which you got told to grow up over, of course its your issue.

So you don't actually use LED lighting yourself?
Omg after looking wrong on basic stuff thats all you got, get over it stop making your whole existence about a light.

Fucking question is can you read a apectrum chart? Did you do much maths at college? Did you even finish college?

Yer your in deep with them leds asking me that crap.

Now im out, spin on it sucker!

It was a pretty simple question. You seem to be an expert on LED grows, but don't grow with LED yourself? Seems odd.

Did I finish College? Um yes I did, the same College who is now my employer. I didn't graduate in horticulture but did take several horticulture classes in College many years ago. How about you?

I used to use hps years ago, in the same cold environment.
Tent floor insulated and a heatmat under the pots keeps the soil warm - very important.

Watch this video , around 1min15seconds in. This demonstrates the difference between how HPS radiates more heat and LED doesn't.
Its not even about how much heat, its about the difference in whats getting heated by light and how the spectrum makes that difference.
Its why LED requires a higher air temp to keep up leaf surface temp.

75f great for HPS, 85f great for LED.

I agree the environment in the cold basement needs sorting out first, but its going to cost less to heat the space to 70f and let the light do the rest than it is to heat the room to 80f.

Simplest way would be to pull the air from the house, since im pretty sure the OP's living environment isn't -30.

Hi, I have a newbie question. I've been lurking for a few weeks and I'm trying to set up a 3x3 or 2x4 tent (i'm open minded either way) for my first grow for some autoflower seeds i got from a friend and give growing a try. My budget is a bit tight (hours reduced cause of covid). The only space I can grow is my basement. My one issue is i live in a cold climate and my basement usually quite cold especially in the winter when it's -30 out. So now i'm wondering if an LED like the kingbrite 240 or 320 (I was just gonna go cheap with lm301b +epistar660 at 3500k) will keep the tent warm enough. So then I started reading about cmh lights as more sunlike but they produce more heat. I'm wondering if that could be a plus in my cold basement.

There is a local hydroponics shop that has a sale on a budget 315w cmh with lamp for $275 and then i'd get a 3x3 tent no worries about customs fees https://www.tthydroponic.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=2096&search=315

Or I've been reading threads about kingbrite in a 2x4 tent. I can get the cheap b+epistar 240w for $210 CAD with shipping and the 320w for $315. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Pre-assemabled-kingbrite-320W-quantum-led_62026740589.html?spm=a2700.icbuShop.41413.11.362a7dafxhoADt

Any advice for a first time grower in a colder basement tent. Which way would you go? Cmh in a 3x3 tent or budget Kingbrite in 2x4? If Kingbrite is 240w enough for a 2x4 or should I get the 320w?

Thank you and sorry if i'm asking too much. I've been reading a lot online but it's a bit overwhelming there are a lot of different opinions out there.
I would set up an intake fan to draw air from under your ground floor, put nice shiny vents in all four corners of your living room or what ever room is above your basement. Use that already warmer air as the incoming air to the tent. Then extract outside or back up into another room to use the heat in your house. You need a reliable carbon filter to do that unless you want your house to smell.
Lots of folks in real cold climates do this. Saves you a lot of electricity just to heat the basement alone.
You can also insulate the tent so it doesn't dissipate all the heat into the cool basement.

I would go with cmh or a 400w hps. The HPS will be the cheapest light to buy. You could even go with a 600w

I'm a cold basement grower who always uses HID. If I didn't I'd have to have the heater going when the lights are on too and heat doesn't grow plants, light does.

For your tent go with a square shape like the 3x3 tho a 4x4 would be better. Rectangular 2 x4 might work with LED strips or something also rectangular in configuration but an HID is more square or round in footprint depending on the reflector. I use open batwing types so can spread or tighten the footprint according to my needs.

I have a heater on a 120V baseboard thermostat I wired up myself. Easy to do and instructions should come with it. Then when my lights go out the heater keeps the temp from dropping too much.

I only have a 400W going atm and the warmest it gets now is 72F. That's with no exhaust fan running. Would be about 63 if the fan was going. Just 18 little plants going but will need to go 600 or 1000 once I get around to repotting.

:peace:

Thanks for the tips. How much height do i need for a cmh. most budget tents aren't very tall. LIke under 6 feet. Will that not be enough?

I guess the disadvantage is that a cmh will cost more in the long run with power bill and bulbs right?
I go as close as 8" with 400W HID but have an extra fan blowing across the top of the canopy. As close as 12" with 1000W when it's on my light rail and always on the move. 12" with good air circulation should be fine with a 315 but the footprint will be smaller depending on the reflector.

No light will change the fact its cold, a 315w cmh wont add much heat to a room unless its really small and even then your fucked at.lightsxoff.

The proper way to do this hobby is to find the right or make the right conditions for an indoor tent or grow.

Somehow mass noob confusion has hid working well in a cold room and led working well in a hot room, not seeing the logic over them both working well in a room that is a constant 70f.
Well leds truly do work much better in 80-85℉.
CMH seems the obvious winner for your situation. That is I'd you use a 3x3 cause that's the footprint of it exactly and it's just the right amount of light for flowering. Hopefully the one you have your eye on dims though because it will be a bit bright for early seedlings. Although, you could just raise the fixture up a few ft and probably be alright that way.
