You ain't lying. I've got a project bike I'm attempting (and mostly failing) to work on so I joined a motorcycle forum for some help. A full month on there and I can't even get a single answer on how to swap a damn swingarm.
 
Bro-science, fake news, confirmation bias, call it what you want but people have a way of finding the answer they want to hear.

There is also something appealing about complicated processes. If something is complicated, has multiple steps, lots of moving parts, impressive scientific terms, it’s got to be way better than a simple process. Kind of like how a $250 shirt has to be way better than a $10 shirt.

Consensus on what? Growing a plant? There are centuries of knowledge on the subject. There are scientific studies done on plant growth. Today's cannabis broscience is a joke. I don't do anything cannabis specific. I treat cannabis like the plant it is and it grows and flourishes. I use the same nutrients in my garden, for my flowers, and houseplants. The only thing I do differently with cannabis is control the light hours. 12/12 for flowering. Other than that I do the same thing I do with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, dahlia's, lilies, etc... The people stuck on cannabis is special and needs all these cannabis specific products are people that have never grown anything in their life. In fact cannabis is a very easy plant to grow and many people would struggle trying to grow a tomato or pepper plant.
 
There is little to no consensus on growing MJ mostly because it has been illegal and still is illegal in most countries, as such we so few legitimate studies on all the controversial subjects related to growing weed....such as flushing/leaching, defoliation/pruning, 18/6 vs 24/0, auto's vs photos and so on.

Most legal industries have conducted scientific studies to determine best practices......in 1970's the cigar tobacco industry granted $2M to an university to determine the best way to control tobacco beatles, who produced a report which is still considered to this day as the bible on the subject.

We need these types of high level studies to determine what methods are best to grow weed, and until then we mostly have opinions of people's experience with growing MJ..... but what works best for you in Florida may not be the best in Arizona or Alaska.

So we have people who rant and rave on a particular subject saying their way is best.....but it may not be best for every environment or situation.
 
You just have to start growing. Adapt to your environment. Learn from mistakes. Always strive for improvement. Problem is now we have the ability to have information and instructions at our fingertips no one can do anything without watching a YouTube video about it first.

Did you notice some direct similarity in choice of words to someone who had himself banned not that long ago?
 
I didn't learn much about basic horticulture and plant biology before I started growing. I had a good teacher when it comes to growing cannabis, but I pretty much just did things the way I was told. When things would go wrong I always had to ask him what was going on and how to fix it. In the 25 years since then I've taken it upon myself to learn more about horticulture in general and it helps immeasurably. I still ask questions all the time. Learning should never stop. If I could go back and start again, I would definitely learned more of the basics before jumping in. If you know how plants work and how to keep one alive and healthy it is a massive head start when trying to grown a specific plant.
 
To me ... researching “ basic gardening “ skills takes most of the fear and confusion out of growing a plant. I watch “ non cannabis “ vids all the time and learn about different consumable plants and veggies. All of that info goes hand in hand , i learned how to create a proper butterfly attractive garden ..... it takes a grower to become a gardener before anything else.

That’s why when i see someone calling themselves a “ master grower “ or they got info from an old hippie on growing weed or they get a pound from lightbulbs and foil turkey pans ...... you just have to laugh. In the end , its your grow , your choices.

You can have a 100 guys growing the same strain and get a shitload of different results.

Back to my beer ....

arrogance is the number one problem in the growing world but your also correct in thinking its not well studied. Maybe those are the wrong words but we do lack a lot of info on things like soil, exact uptake , ph swings, ect...

It may be easier to just google what you want to know but much of the free info on the internet is designed as click bait. Forums are a bunch of people’s opinions; you can learn a lot from them but it starts with a basic understanding of the subject. PH is one example that comes to mind; people may not really have a deep understand of it yet they dispense advice because they know how to use ph up/down.
This plant is very well studied but to access the best information all in one place you might have to actually go buy a book or two. Then you become the expert.

I’m still a newb but not afraid to dive into books. I’ve had this copy a long time and recently dug it up.

I recently told a friend that's thinking of getting into growing cannabis to grow a tomato plant first. A lot less discouraging if you murder a tomato plant and you learn pretty much everything you need to know to grow pot.
 
One of Ed's columns or books (can't remember which) is the first place I read about using aspirin....just saying.

actually a Tomato is a plant which carries "fruits" - which are full of water so that's why a tomato needs much more Potassium than hemp. It also demands more nutritients from the soil. Cannabis is a flowering plant, more similart to a rose.

It's a plant hormone, can beused generally but I have not dived into it as of yet so I can't give advice on how to use it properly (hormones used in a inappropriate way may cause more harm than good...)
