help with pump

my first hydro build, i have four 20 litre buckets which includes one bucket as a reservoir,

from what i understand i need a pump around 450 lph to sustain a good flow of water in a waterfall style (dont want to use an airpump)

are there any recommendations for a brand and model of pump suitable for this setup - the pump is required to be long lasting, extremely quiet, well made?

i am based in the uk so i cannot get hold of some models ive searched that are from the usa :(

nice one Airwalker, it was your design that has inspired me to go down this road.. yes they do a 2500 model at about 60 quid..
  • DCP-2500 (750-2500 Lp/h)
looks like a winner for me, though can i ask why specifically you like this particular brand or model?

Its at my recommendation after weeks of looking at pumps and trying to decide what I should get to upgrade my own system. I run an 8000 turned down to like 40% so I can use it for other things.
The pump has good reviews all throughout the big aquarium communities and many tech reviewers in that world consider it one of the best values.
Its very power efficient so it produces very little heat, its variable, comes in a lot of size options, includes a bunch of well sized barbed fittings and pvc adapters, theyre designed for saltwater and freshwater so it should stand up to our nutrient solutions, works great in-line or submerged, is pretty damn quiet for the amount of water they can move.
The only real downside I have with it is its a china made pump so warranty service will likely be non-existent.
I havent used mine all that long, but plenty of the reviewers had had them running constantly for a year+
The flip side of the china argument is that theyre very cheap for what we're getting and one going out isnt a massive hit to the wallet.

Great response, looking forward to getting my unit now..

glad i went with the advice to go with a variable powered pump as my four buckets has already changed to four buckets and then a res tank..
will let you know how it goes with the new pump.
