I've got my first ever plant in one (edit: not my first ever plant, but my first plant grown in a SIP, just to clarify)... the growth is INSANE compared to just running 5gal buckets using bottled "organic" liquid nutes.

This was the day I transplanted vs 1 week later:

Also, biggest fan leaves I've EVER had in my life.. twice the size of my hands:



My only issue, is soil mites. They're everywhere. I've been adding DE and hitting them with spinosad, but not sure how effective that rlly is looking at the population size... although to be honest, I'm not sure these guys are bad.

They arent going anywhere near my plant, seems theyve eaten a majority of the springtails I had hopping around, and the plant isnt showing any signs of root distress... in gonna keep applying DE and Spinosad regardless, but I'm hoping I got lucky with a non invasive species

Sips are awesome. Set it and forget it really. But it sounds like your "set it" might need some attention. Neem, karanja are highly recommended for mites and whatever else greenthumbs suggests.
Also amazing Dr. Zymes works well. Pretty sure anything u use will need to be repeated 4-5 days apart.

They will go away eventually, it happens when the top stays too wet. Just remember to never top water, and buy some yellow sticky traps. But thankfully they wont affect your plants. As for the wife, well good luck. If you figure that one out let me know please!

I love seeing someone else running these and getting the same results as I do, its basically the best thank you I can get! This right here is what makes the hours and hours I spent typing all this shit up actually worth it!

Have you been top dressing with kashi? I've found when you have a really nice thick layer of mycelium growing, it usually prevents the soil mites for staying around for very long, but I dont think that it's a fix all either, I still find them from time to Time. But as I've said they wont do a single bit of harm to your ladies!

I did have a thick layer of bokashi, but that's when the mites started, and I havent added anymore since. I made my soil mix, added my amendments, and let the soil cook for about 3 weeks, no issues.

Then I set up the SIP, added my water/em1 to the rez, Transplanted my plant from 1/2 gal into the SIP, then added some blood meal + enough soil to cover it. Bokashi on top of that.

Few days later, is when I first saw the mites. They eat decaying organic matter, so I kinda attributed the mites to the bokashi, although I'm sure the mites had to be in the soil prior to that

Yea I hated using bokashi I found it was basically like saw dust, and just a shit quality. I recommend tossing it, and going buy GROkashi, you can get it at build a soil(which is where I buy mine, if you need a referal let me know we both get discounts) or you can find it on Amazon, and prolly alot of other places too.

But I try and wait till bas does a deal or something and buy as many as I can. I've actually gotten a free Chaplin sprayer from them for saving my points and cashing them in!

But sometimes there just isnt much you can do about the soil mites, I still get them from time to time. Best advice I have for that, is gunna be the yellow sticky traps. Hang them on the bottom of the plant or even the fill tube. That will catch majority of them, and you wont mind nearly as much!

I hope you mixed that blood meal up in the soil, and not just a thick layer? I stopped using any types of "meal" they can be hot, and also can take a long time to break down. So if your going to use them anyway, atleast be stingy on it, and dont add in a ton.

2tbsp lightly sprinkled on the top. I've burned some tomatoes pretty bad outdoors with it before lol, so I went pretty light. That was about 3 weeks ago now and shes flourishing, so she should be fine.

And then I plan on flowering in roughly 2 weeks so i just top dressed again with 1/2cup each of langbenite and SBG a couple days ago. My base is full of bio-live too, so that should be the final time I top dress and HOPEFULLY carries me all the way to the end

And then I plan on flowering in roughly 2 weeks so i just top dressed again with 1/2cup each of langbenite and SBG a couple days ago. My base is full of bio-live too, so that should be the final time I top dress and HOPEFULLY carries me all the way to the end

I say rule of thumb just top dress it every 30 days, while still in veg. I dont see any benefits to top dressing while in flower(not counting the very first one at flip) unless your running a sativa or any other hybrid that goes on for longer them 8 weeks or so

They could be hypoaspis miles which are beneficial predatory mites. Do they get more active after you water?

I dont exactly water so it's hard to say lol.
The water wicks up from the bottom, I just keep the rez filled and she drinks as she needs to and soil stays consistently moist

They're white/tan colored, appear to be round, the size of a pencil point, and run under the soil when I shine a light on them.

I've tried to get pictures, but I cant get anything that would help identify them.. they're too small to get any detailed pics. But from everything I've read, if they arent actively trying to climb the plant, they probably arent anything to worry about. But I'd still prefer not to have em

I lean towards agreeing with greenthumb that the mycelium helps protect against mites. I have sips with mycelium grokashi and 1 gal pots with the same soil in the next adjacent room to it without mycelium. One room is completely fine the whole time but the other room had the problem which Dr zymes fixed. Just my observation.

Sorta sounds like your brokashi hasent broken down properly either maybe.... Do you have a crazy large white fungas growing all over the top layer of soil?

I did have some mycelial growth on the top, but then I hit it heavy with DE because of the mites, and later applied a top feed in anticipation of flowering soon.. so I currently dont have a fungal mat up top
