Essential Oils To Deter Bugs?

I have been researching about natural bug repellents. Came across a list of essential oils. In theory, if I was to take a q-tip and rub some essential oil around the base of the container, or even the top of the container, it should act as a natural repellent? Hell, even around some spots in the grow tent? I am asking about this because the other day I had a single gnat or mite fly at me when inspecting plant outside growing area. My question is, has anyone experiment with this before, if so what kind of essential oils have you used? I found this picture with a list of natural repellents. Thanks, J.R.

I have used bug prevention products from these guys successfully in the past with no harm to my plants..

I haven't experimented with the individual items in your picture, but know that sierranaturalscience products include some of them in their products.

As for fungus gnats - I currently use a product called 'Mosquito Bits' which uses BTI as the active ingredient. If I experience an issue or notice any type of gnat problem in my soil, I sprinkle some of the mosquito bits on top and then water them in. Sometimes if I notice gnats at the bottom of my containers, I'll mix the mosquito bits in my watering can, put the pots in a tray and fill the tray with that treated water and allow the plants to absorb it from the bottom up. Works like a charm every time.

I always add some flavor to my preventive sprays. Not sure if it works 100 but it smells purdy.

On a side note, be careful with essential oils around cats as they can have very sensitive respiratory systems to stuff like that. I'd guess this applies for other animals, and humans too.

lol, I didn't even read your post before I posted. I just saw ess.oils and a picture. lol.

I have bought really long, single sided swabs 'qtips' and put them tip up into my coco so they are sticking out a couple inches.. Then during my daily chores i'll drip a couple drops on each one. At the time it worked for gnats. This was years ago.

I am currently dealing with gnats for real now. I've tried everything. Pure bti(mosquito dunks) concentrate isn't even knocking them back. I dont think they hurt anything but they sure are aggressive little bitches. Could be winged aphids too I guess.

Stay at it. I spray every Tuesday

But if you go to https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/agplants/pesticide-use-cannabis-production-information you can download/view a file which lists approved products allowed for growing weed in CO. In that listing is the active ingredients of those products. Pretty interesting what oils(and other things) are used in store bought sprays.
I use that listing as a recipe book lol
