Looking to add a good mini split to my grow room. Alpine, Pioneer, brands have popped up any fellow growers with experience using them?? Looking for 24k btu maybe 30k

Hey Renfro those Mitsubishi do look like they would be best but man oh man they are pricey, let me ask you this I have 4 1000 watt HPS one of which is a Gavita giving off a lot of heat, and the ballast are in the grow room what size unit would you shoot for. 18kBTU or 24kBTU I am in Northern Cal so winters and nights are easy going, however Summer where I am gets hot.

I’m in NorCal too. Yesterday It was 105F where i’m at during the day and is supposed to be the same today. Don’t go under 5Kbtu of AC per 1000w of DE light in sealed room. 6Kbtu is definitely safe.

Yea you close to me the summer heat is unreal at times ready for the winter when the grow room is optimal perfect all fall and winter lol

Yes. I’ve never sprung for the very expensive ones though. I always puss out when choosing units lol.
I believe @Renfro had problems with Midea, but I had absolutely none. They were in my bloom room in P-town up until they burned down. I have even cheaper Thermocore brand units in my new grow. So far so good.
Are you planning on installing it yourself? I’ve installed quite a few Mr cool ones for people i got through home depot. They are still running fine.

So I wouldn't mind installing it myself if its fairly simple or I could find help to do it, I see the Mitsubishi I am needing goes for around $2500-3800 this is 24kBTU- 36KBTU. You guys said to give about 6kBTU per 1000watt so 36KBTU may not be needed but I just want to make sure I am golden and the room is cool all year long. Currently have a portable Whytner ac unit thats 12kBTU and the room isn't scorching its just little on the hotter side, my theromo is sitting on top of the soil in the pots and it reading 79-85max with lights on but only running 3 lights not four.
Yea I want to be able to run all 4 and maintain 72-77degrees with lights on just not sure what exactly will get those numbers.
Brands like Pioneer and Ideal Air, etc are cheaper but will they cool the room as low as I am needing. If no than yes I will finance a Mitsubishi

Ok say no more is 24kBTU more than enough for 4 1000 watters to get 75 degree weather or 36k btu

just my opinion, and I only have an ac contractors license and have done many mini splits
3000 btu for 1000 watt se
4500 for de
an 18,000 would work fine, 24,000 btu if you live in a hot climate
I have used cheap ones with no issues.
issues occur from bad installations.

Summers get really hot june - Aug after that weather is perfect, The room is in my garage I converted 3 car spot into a 10x10x10 room.

Here where it gets hotter than snot in the summer i always recommend and go by 5kbtu minimum per 1000(1150w) DE. In sealed growroom. Allowing for the needed dehu/s, co2 generators, etc. works everytime. I build allot of growrooms.
6kbtu per light is safer though

You also might want to grab a WIFI controller for your AC unit. Pebble, Sensibo are a few. This would allow you to schedule the AC to come on and cool when the lights are on and it could switch over to dehumidification mode if need be when the lights are out. You can also view temperature and change settings from your phone.
