Which fan would you pick?

Hey potheads I guess this is my 1st real post. I'm going to have a 2-3 tent set up and wondering what fans you guys like most? I have a 3x3x70, 4x4x80, and a 5x5x80. I already bought two of the Vortex S-line 6" fans that are 340CFM to split between the 3' and 4' tents. I see a lot of people recommending the AC Infinity fans from amazon. Are they that good? I like that it comes with a meter. How does it compare to the Vortex tho? I live in an apartment so its gotta be quiet. I hate spending money on junk so more often than not I'll buy the more expensive if it proves a better option.

+1 ac infinity. I don't know how it compares to vortex but it does check the box on quiet sound and air movement. I ordered mine off their site directly because they had discount and free shipping. Better deal at the time than Amazon who didn't have the 6" in stock for what that's worth.

Just looked at their site and out of stock until 6/6. Amazon has the 6" in stock. Been trying to find info on the warr for the AC but don't see it anywhere. I thot I read 3 years somewhere but idk. It does say they have a 67,000 hr life expectancy which is a tad over 7.5 yrs. The Vortex has a 10 yr warr....yes 10 yeeeeaaars lol. Thanks for the feedback!

Would you recommend the 6" version over the 8" version in a 4'x8'x6.5' tent?

Unless youre running miles of ducting with a bunch of 90s and filters, that 8" will be too much for that tent. Prob suck the walls in. You're fine with a 6" for that tent Its only about 225CF

Thanks I really appriciate the advice. I'll probably order the 6" tonight then. Yeah, I figured the 8" could do some serious work, but it showed twice the airflow movement as the 6" and I wasn't sure if it would be better to get that and run it at a lower speed, for sound or whatever.

AC Infinity are good, I run TerraBloom, a few bucks less without the extra controls yet they utilize DC PWM fans like the ACF.
6" is 351 CFM (real, not imaginary like some brands!)
I like em...

If you have plans to go bigger soon then the 8 could work with speed controllers. You would like the air to move slower thru your charcoal filter so the higher the CFM, the lower you could in theory run your fans which will run quieter as well.

I just saw that name while searching too. I will have to go back and take a closer look. Thank you!

Can't beat 10 years. AC infinity is 2 year warr for defect, free return ship etc. Amazon and their direct site go back and forth on backorder or oos on certain models.

Yeah I'd go with a 6
Solid recommendation but if you ask me, I always go 1 size bigger than what my actual cfm space is for. I'd rather dial it down, for quieter performance and less load on the fan.

I got the 6" for my 2x4x7. Unless you're attaching a filter + have more than 2 duct bends + going 15+ft of exhaust, you would be okay with the 6. This isn't a formula just based on experience. You may be running the fan full capacity during flower depending on strength of smell. Unless smell is not a concern.

I'm certainly on the fence about it. My main concerns are being more quiet, and smell. I've been trying to look up all the information I can before I purchase one. I'm very indecisive, especially when I can't see it in person, you know?

According to the calculator, my tent size needs 219 cfm. So the 6" can move 402 CFM, while the 8" can move 807 CFM. I'll obviously be using a filter. I'm not sure how many turns I'll be needing actually, still haven't figured out how I will run the exhaust yet. So my concern is if it would be more quiet running the T8 on a lower setting, than the T6 at a higher setting.

I guess that a find out and see answer lol. Hell man get the 8 and maybe use a silencer if need be. I think you can run one on either/both side of your fans. The less shit you have to buy later the better

6" is rated 32 dB @ 402 cfm
8" is rated 39 dB @ 807 cfm at half capacity would be quieter than 6" near or at full capacity. Plus would extend the longevity of your 8" since you'll probably never have to run it full capacity. Either one is not a bad decision but thats all of it laid out for you to make your decision.

I am copying my post from another thread on fans:

I will give you a nickel's worth of free advice here that will increase your production, solve your heat issues, and do it affordably with quality equipment backed by a better manufacturer's warranty than the cloud line fans. Let's do this. Cloud line fans are warrantied for 2 years. They warranty them for 2 years, because that is their expected life. They have a relatively high failure rate, and they are attempting to do too many things with the product at too low of a cost to engineer it to last. Solution? Get an inline fan from a manufacturer that has a better warranty. Get an inline fan that is only moving air. No environmental controllers or other cheap bells and whistles that do not contribute to moving the air.

Recommended inline fans:

#1) Vortex 6" Power Fan manufactured in Canada $114.99 backed by a 10 year warranty. These are what professionals use in the HVAC industry. I have one in service cooling two 1000 watt HPS lamps that runs quiet and moves a lot of air. No issues in service for over 3 years. Great fan highly recommended.

#2) Soler and Palau TD-150 $122.99 with free shipping backed by a 7 year warranty. I'm unaware of the country of manufacture. These are what professionals use in the HVAC industry. They are built to last. I have a td-125 I use for my veg tent that is 12 years old and still running like the day I first fired it up. Clean every 6 months. I also have a TD-150 that will be installed on a new tent I'm setting up next month for mother plants. You have to hookup your own power cord and wire clamp to these which requires about 5 minutes time to do the job and another 5 minutes of your time to watch the youtube video on how to install the wire. Fantastic inline fan for the money. These are the quietest fans on the market. Can fan takes a close second for quiet operation.

#3) Can-Fan Max-Fan Manufactured in Germany $174.99 with free shipping backed with a 5 year warranty. Can-Fan is the industry leader in filtration and inline fan technology. This unit comes with an integrated 3 speed fan controller. I have had one in service for over 8 years without issue. They are pricey, because they are specifically marketed to the cannabis industry. Everything marketed to the cannabis industry is more expensive than it actually should be. They're great fans, but I would never pay $174.99 for an inline fan that's worth $135 at most. Speed controllers are $10 on amazon. You could buy a Vortex 6" Power Fan for $114.99 and a $10 speed controller for a total investment of $125, and you have a fan with a better warranty for $50 cheaper. It's your money though. Spend it as you see fit. I got my max fan used for thirty or forty bucks from another grower a long time ago.

For fuck's sake do not buy one of those shitty cloud line fans. You will never see one of those crummy devices in a professional grow room. Pro's cannot afford equipment failures. We use quality gear with low failure rates backed by lengthy extended warranties, so if something does go wrong it's replaced at no cost to us. One last thing, word to your mother!

Thank you for the reply!! Well I just might go after the 8" vortex then as well. Its $200 with free shipping at home depot. Same place i bought the 6's from. I had planned on buying a Titan environment controller for the flower tent but the ac infinity one looked reasonable lol
I would get the 8 inch and use a controller. I have an 8 inch on a voltage stepping controller in a 5x5x7 and can hardly hear anything.

Have you looked into the Can max fan pro? I've had 2 of them and they are quiet and powerful.
Do you know of which speed controllers that will not make a loud buzzing sound? I kept hearing this about the dial a temp and others doing that so i got the active air 15 amp model. haven't used them yet tho. I have seen the Can fan brand as my intake prefilter is from can fan. Not familiar with the fans but i think they are the yellow ones?
