I wish I could find either the thread or the study it linked. I went looking after my post but no luck.
Personally, I've found the two most important factors in getting cuts to root are having clean and/or sterile instruments, medium, pots etc, and keeping light levels low. I've had 10" clones with probably 1/2 a dozen untrimmed, bushy nodes grow roots in coco, with no wilting or yellowing, in around 10 days following these concepts. Like everything in growing, there are many paths to success, but this is working for me.
I've had luck removing lower leaves at the base of the stems as well, but it just seems like extra steps.
