What would you recommend instead?
I'm a first time buyer also, and a first time grower. Got both happy frog and oceans forrest after i burned burned a couple of my plants in week 3/4 by overeating and using miracle gro food and soil. I sought advice here when i noticed the burnt leaf tips, and was told about these soil options and the GH Flora Trio Nutrients. I ordered all of the recommended products the following day and received them about 2 weeks ago. While waiting for the items arrival i flushed the lot of them with ph'd water a couple of times. During the wait i noticed since if the stems were turning purple and some leaves were coming in and turning a light green color. I was rooks it may be a sulfur or magnesium deficit so i bought some Epsom salt and mixed 1 tbls into a gallon of water and began to spray then a little in the mornings. Upon the soil and nutrients arrival, i put them to use and fed all of the ones that did not get transferred into the new soil at 1/4 the recommended amount of the flora trio butt did not but have cal-mag. I transfered 6 of my plants into a hf/of/perlite mix, and gave them ph'd water only for 2 feedings. About 5 days after the transfer i noticed the fungus gnats and sprayed the plants till runoff and soil/coco surface with Garden Safe fungicide/insecticide,as the directions stated, and watered then with h2o2. I also ordered some cal-mag, sand, dolomite lime,and diatomaceous earth to solve the issues I've had. All of my supplies arrived Thursday/Friday after the garden safe application severely damaged some of their leaves. I have removed missy2 of the affected leaves,and the gnats are almost gone. But now I'm still fight what i think is a deficiency of a few things due to lack of nutrients a couple of weeks back. Long story short, I'm glad to hear that i didn't cause the gnats but frustrated that the recommended product gave them to me. Any skill m skill recommendations?

They don't look too bad.. but much of the stuff I see off looks like PH issues. Do you PH your water or soil at all? One simple fix I will recommend is backing off on the nutes, and using Real Growers Recharge. It will rebuild microorganisms and beneficial bacteria, which in turn may fix your PH causing nutrient uptake issues. You probably have plenty of nutes in the soil they just are going unused. Use once a week and see how it goes. If you feel they still are hungry then try just to do 1/2 strength nutes until they are looking happy again.. You could also just do some simpler feedings like topdress your soil with some EWC or do a compost tea.

When i got the flora trio i bought the ph up and down,so i was using the drops that the kit comes with from week 3/4 until a week ago when i got the digital meter. With the drops i would get it to a pee yellow/yellowish green, and the run off would start out orangeish .I've been getting the water to read about 6.0-6.2 each time since i have gotten the digital meter, and the runoff has been starting at 5.3/5.4.
So no call-mag either? Just straight water for the next week or so?

What's an EWC? Sorry, I'm completely new to this, and kinda got in over my head. I had no clue that it was this intense of a process. I'm honestly surprised that they're all still alive I've never grown anything before this. Thanks for the advice!

sorry yes stick w the cal mag it shouldn't hurt. but I'm guessing you got some type of nute buildup. usually I don't use any nutes in veg since FF soil has some in it already which is usually good for a month. I woukd also really recommend some recharge or a molasses based compost tea to give your soil microbes a bump.

And yeah its like anything else, you get out what you put in. You could flower now and be fine tbh. But a little TLC will go a long way. Also as you do a few rounds you will learn to back off a bit in early days. Its really easy to get anxious early in veg and start throwing a bunch of stuff at the plants. At this point in my grow I keep it super simple. Just FFOF in veg + water + recharge once a week. When they get repotted for flower I mix 1/2 FFOF 1/4 Perlite 1/8 Malibu bus compost 1/8 EWC. Water every other day + recharge 1x a week til week 6 then just water. Top dress once around week 3/4 flower once they start looking hungry. Of course a little dialing in here and there per strain w some liquid nutes but I keep it as basic as possible. Switch up to a homemade supersoil soon too but that is also to simplify things. It will get easier every round as you get more experience!

I was planning on keeping them in veg at least 2 more weeks,probably through to the end of July, to get them as healthy as possible. I just want to wrap this one up so i can begin a more methodical run. Honestly, this one was thrown together but I'm learning a lot and having fun(when I'm not stressing out about making a mistake).
I'm going to take your advice and get some of the recharge in the rotation in place of the nutrients for the remainder of the veg cycle and invest in the EWC and compost you recommended.
I also have a few that are in coco loco coconut coir. I now know the nutrient and watering requirements are different than with soil. Do you have any experience/advice for growing with coco?
And to compound my inquiries... I'm thinking about as l employing a drip irrigation system that I've built...any thought on this method?

Starting a worm bin is usually step #1 for organic gardeners. It's the most expensive thing to buy and it's better if you make it yourself. Peat moss + rock dust + expired produce = the best soil that you can get!!! The commercial worm castings is made out of cardboard boxes, so there isn't much diversity there.

I havent used coco at all sorry. I do want to give it a try at some point since peat isn't really sustainable long term, but I am trying not to change too much at once.

Ive thought about drip lines a bunch, bought a bunch of lines and a pump, and never used it. Part of what led me to trying to get to a water only regimen was so that I could. Not sure I will in this apartment I am in now tho. Once I get a space that suits it, I am definitely going to give Blumats a try.

Ditto actually. I bought two bags right at the start of the pandemic instead of my usual brand and it was awful heavy on the bark and twigs...
But I can handle the bark and twigs, its the gnats I'm mad about. Never had a problem before, now I can't get rid of them.

i visited a nursery here in Chicago a week or so ago, not a veggie plant in sight. When i inquired, the botanist there said that all their suppliers' greenhouses are in states with strict covid restrictions and therefore their supply was heavily effected but as you said, not the demand.

i just bought 3 of the big bags for my ladies and veggie garden, All 3 were plenty moist and rich, didnt seem very old. I unfortunately already had gnats from bringing home veggie plants from the store so i cant speak on that. Ive also had a bad bag once before but since all my other experiences were positive i chalked it up to a being a random shitty one

since scott's bought sunlight supply, the biggest supplier of ffof, they quit distributing it. stores used it as a lost leader to get people into the stores. I bet that and covid has hit them hard and it may be starting to show.
