LB - Don’t panic! The bud poofyness may be several factors but it is what it is at this point. I have smoked poofy buds before and they were fine. For the dryness just put a damp (not wet) paper towel (well half of one) in a ziploc baggie 3/4 closed in with your buds and they will rehydrate in a 1/2 day or so.

I suspect the poofiness is due to the non-growth that occurred during flowering. Since you only had one application of bloom nutes the plant did not have sufficient P and K to develop the buds fully creating poofy buds. Also lack of any N made the fan leaves use up their entire stored N to provide life support during flowering, hence the yellowing of all leaves. Since we saw Subs pics of his dense Connies, we know it’s not the genetics, which sometimes make poofiness. I have also seen poofy buds with lack of light, which is similar to reduced growth due to lack of ferts. I've done this too so that's why Im familiar with the symptoms.

If you think of the plants metabolism as a fire in the boiler on a train, you have to feed it enough to keep the train (plant) going at the proper speed (growth rate). Too much and the boiler (plant) blows up (dies); too little and the train goes slow or stops (grows slowly or stops growing). Anyway that is my humble opinion.

Seamaiden - First sorry to hear of the death by wind and impact. On the seeds you are correct the seeds are the infamous "feminized" version. What should you be looking for with these fem seeds? A propensity to become hermies. Some fem seeds are engineered to have a low percentage of hermy occurrences. Stress can bring out hermyism (is that a word?) in certain strains which may be what happened to yours. Given the extremely high percentage of males (strange in itself as these were technically feminized seeds) in the Connie experiment, I'm surprised there weren’t more hermies. Since the seeded plant is CI x BB, I would keep a close eye out for balls and keep a tally on the percentage of hermies. Sometimes, if you are lucky, you can cut the balls off the hermie and it will not reoccur (also track this). I have also heard that if you pollinate the preflower pistils it satisfies the need of the plant to produce pollen sacks. Any who, keep track of hermorphidism. If it's infrequent, keep the seeds but realize you will have to watch them (this is unfortunately true of all "fem seeds"). If the occurrence is annoyingly frequent, dispose of them as you see fit. Hope this helps more than confuses.

I think I got scared of overfeeding and just didn't give the thing enough nutes. What I've learned about next year's grow is that the plants will go in 5-gal buckets and will get lots of worm castings all the way through, as well as a few feedings of the bloom nutes. Growing weed has turned out to be trickier than I thought and I now have huge respect for those of you who get the giant yields and shit.

HOWEVER, my buds may be poofy, but they're sticky, and I am pleased to say I just smoked my first bowl and I am QUITE buzzed!! It tastes good and I know it'll be even better once it cures. I learned a ton this summer, and I now have six beautiful plants going in the cab. They're growing fabulously, I have to get some more soil and transplant them asap!! I'm determined to keep these plants going all winter and for all of next year's outdoor crop to be TGA strains. :)

Can I just say it's so awesome to be stoned on bud you grew?!?! This is my very first time with that and it kicks ass! Ha! YAY!!!!! I can't wait to share it with my friends!

As for the water cure, whoa, I didn't even know you could do that!

Yes, you can say that it's awesome to be stoned on weed you grew. I told you it feels really cool, it's almost as good as that year I made a buche de noel entirely from scratch, with little meringue mushrooms and everything.

Greenthumb, you've just answered more than my initial question. Thanks! (Most importantly, a little confirmation of the idea that simply pollinating the plant, i.e. allowing it to sexually reproduce, staves off incidence of hermaphrodism. I really think that one of the big genetic incentives of Cannabis is to reproduce SEXUALLY. I think that, despite the reputation of Conquistador, that's why just one of my girls decided to have the operation. There's other stuff going around in my head, but it's a bit scattered at this time.

Congrats to both of you. I think with all that went on (squirils, wind, and heat) you two did a great job flowering your girls and bringing homegrown home! I've grown really badly before but each time we learn and do better next time. The buds that are produced are usually stoney, sometimes I wonder how the plant even lived for me to harvest. Lol Anyway, enjoy the fruits of your labors, it is afterall, the best part. :blsmoke:

I think that green's saying that the lack of nutrients during flowering may also have contributed. Again, as long as it's not freezing (think hard frost), these plants can tolerate a good bit. They look the way they do because of their annual tendencies, again, rather natural.

Hydro, yeah, definitely sucks. And, I don't think I can re-veg what remains as a mother because of how the rootball was destroyed. but, I did keep the main stalk and what remains in soil, on the back deck, and damn if it's not dying yet. I'd like to see those buds lookin' like Frosted Mini Wheats (one of my FAVORITES, used to detest them as a kid), gettin' all that scissor hash and sticky icky and the smell making me nauseous.. wait, scratch that, I didn't enjoy the nausea. :lol:

And, to make it even better, today I was going to go reassess what remains of Miss CIxBB, but last night I twisted the living fuck out of my ankle. We were going to our friends' house to watch the Steelers-Redskins game, all rainy, pine needles (also called needle bearings up here) all over the place and stepped off and BAMMO! Hit the ground with searing pain. Still haven't broken a single bone YET! :mrgreen: Still hurts like a fuck, though.

LB - I think its a combo of not enough nutes during flower and/or low light levels. It was probably the nutes. Regardless you produced budskies that are tasty! If they are too dry rehydrate them a little with a damp paper towel for hours to a half day or so.

Your plants are still inside aren't they? They shouldn't be freezing inside.

So today I'm off to Home Depot to get the materials for my window. I'm planning to buy plastic sheeting, a small space heater, CFLs, and wiring, and then I'm stopping at the art supply store for foam core and mylar to line the thing. Can anyone think of anything else I need? I also have to go to the ecology center for soil...busy day today but quite fun!! :)

alright kids....well I am in panama...i how did the connies turn out?...good smoke or what?...i am having some of my f1's sent down but am wondering if its even worth the trouble...lemme know...i dont wanna risk it if I can find a mould resistant strain that is gonna do better here...we get over 100 inches of rain here a year....what do you cats think...any suggestions

The querkle seemed to stand out i guess,Dint you mention ISS or somethin else like it.Need to re read my mail.Ill write youre other mail after i read it again.Right now would be great timing.All the plants are in there 3rd week of veg.

My Conquistador girls may not finish til December, they are still growing new white pistils! I've got two other girls that are telling me they're ready to drop the babies.
