Quick question

Starting my first auto flower seed “afghan kush ryder” i just planted it into my 5gal smart pot with fox farm soul but anxious to get it done i planted the seed when the pot was about half way full can i add soil to the plant after it has sprouted ?

I'm not too sure about this to be honest, I know you can with Photoperiod strains as I do something similar myself. As my seedlings grow taller I just add more soil and any part of the stem that has been submerged will grow roots from it. I'd be interested to know if this is the same for autos too.

Yea bro me too.. just got my last shit in the mail to start my grow and i was so anxious.. only had enough soil to cover about half of the 5gal pot at the time i just thought no problem I’ll jus add more but omw i was like wait a minute lol..

Are your ladies autos or Photoperiod? I know it works for photos, but was interested to know if that's the same for autos. Thanks Maurice

you should start any new plants in small pots, I start seeds in jiffy pellets until they’ve poked roots, then move up to a quart size pot, then 1gal, then either 2-5 gal pots.

starting a seedling in 2-5gal pots not the best as you may over water the soil region and never give it room to dry out and grow. My suggestion would be once it sprouts or before it sprouts move it into a red plastic cup with holes drilled for drainage. If it has already sprouted, dig it up deeper rather than wider as the tap root shoots downs 3-4inches

I agree with this, but I don't grow Autoflowers myself, only Photoperiods and from everything I've been reading and been told is that you should start an Autoflower straight in its Final pot, just have to be careful about how you water it in the early days. Do you know if this is correct? As I said I don't grow Autos myself, but always looking to learn more.

Honestly I’ve heard the complete opposite. I’ve heard its better to start auto flower in their main home as auto flowers dont like transplants but will definitely do this thank you

auto flowering plant have a fixed growing time so transplant shock will reduce yield.I have only grow one auto and was disappointed with the yield. with photo I germinate in wet paper towels and when the root gets 3/4-1 inch long I move them into 3 gallon pots and never had a problem. I grow S.O.G so need to keep the girls small

you do not want to put holes in a fabric pot. they drain thru the fabric

I've tested transplanting autoflowers. I dont recommend it. You lose time on them. Plant in final container and water only a small circle around where the seedling is until it gets bigger.

Its easy and completely doable with a big of care.

Also I had a similar situation where I used to little soil. I added soil after the fact once the plant had gone into flower a bit. I had already cut off the lower leaves and it didn't hinder the plant in the slightest.

Benefit was a influx of microbes and nutrients at least.

Cant say if it shot off new roots though.

when i remove thr leave anf bury a few inches of th stock I see new root within 2 weeks

Well there you go. I try not to disturb the dirt and roots so I don't check it.
