So, I started growing cannabis for personal use in March when a friend who lives near gave me 3 clones of Gorilla Glue 4 (i’ll just say GG hereout), and a Tangie hybrid I forget the name of.
I live on a couple acres near coastal Mendo. Temperature in the high 50’s to 60’s daytime that time of year, but sunny and feeling of spring. Far enough in to avoid the direct ocean wind. If you know, you know.
I decided to plant one GG in a nice 2.5ish ft. cubed container on black landscape tarp. Refurbed the soil with some local-bought premium dirt, made a little bowl with some coconut husk strands, and cradled her in. Then I built a miniature greenhouse around it with some basic plastic corrugated panels and 4 bamboo poles upon which a makeshift rack-roof with glass and plastic plates were placed. I hung a light on a timer from the rack to wake her up at 3am to keep her in veg. Too early of spring in the area for proper lighting, as I found out.
I would take down the panels during the day to let her get the breeze and sunlight. At night the panels would go back on and when the light came on it looked like a tall lantern with a vague shadow of a plant inside. One of the coolest things I built on a whim, haha. Wish I had pictures of it lit up, but, next Spring.
Jumping over to the story of the other 3 now-
They went first in a nice sunny room type nook, that had lights on a timer to veg them. They grew big, grew fast. By mid April I decided to put them out on all natural light.
They went in a tomato greenhouse that got good sunshine but from an angle in the sky that left about 13hrs. of sunlight not accounting for brief blockage from trees. Soon I received 2 more plants from elsewhere to round out my legal six (I need to get medi; I essentially use it as such!). OG Kush. I decided, out of convenience(?), to “twin” them in one large, maybe 20 gal., pot. They went in the greenhouse as well.
Long-story shortened- they grew well and grew quick, but 4 decided to flower, and the Tangie experiment grew balls, so had to go, though it too was starting to grow some nice pre-flower pistils.
I moved the remaining GG’s and the twins into a quick closet setup. Finished them with a couple small t5s, 3 LED grow spectrum flood bulbs, and some LED closet-light bars. Also a small fan. Very unimpressive but helped the early girls complete.
The Kush, which I had read is a fickle strain, seemed ready to harvest a couple weeks before GG. Worried about mold and secretly rooted for GG as the plants most worth saving. Pinner buds but tasty smoke! Less than an oz, don’t recall weight. With the GGs I only got 1.5oz of tasty quality popcorn.
(will continue this saga later with more pics)
