Powdery Mildew, Sulfer and H2O2

I dread the thought of washing curing buds but it needs to be done.

Have you looked at the CleanLight link above? I could sterilize the surface of all the buds, at a cost to potency. But at least I wouldn't have to wash the buds.

.
I would actually like to see the results of that light. Def post your findings man

I bought a usb microscope camera but I can't get the thing bright enough to see the trichs or PM, I'll have to give you an eye ball description of the plants.

I don't know if the PM will look much different sterilized or alive but I might be able to track PM density over time.

I'm going to use it every couple of days through my next grow and it should reduce the PM.

Yes it does Mangrowves, especially near the bottom of the leaf where it looks like crystal but it's powder.

Do you have a magnifying scope to look at the patches, see if its a bunch of criss crossing clear tubes?

Definitely not new leaf Trichomes, a lot of my bud leaves don’t have it just the older bigger fan leaves trying to eliminate before it hits the buds don’t want to wash them or UV light them at Harvest.

How far into flower are you?

I did the H2O2 dunk on the Sluracane this afternoon, took about 2.5 hours.

While I was washing there was a piney smell that I assume is either dead PM or the plants normal smell.

Not that big of a job and I'm glad I did it. All of my colas are hanging from my shower curtain ring, I'll give them a few days drying before deciding what to do next with this plant.

I'm expecting my sulfur burner tomorrow or Monday and the CleanLight UVC next week sometime. I'm going to do a 4 hour practice burn in my now empty 3x3 tent, then to the live 4x4 tent with plants at 2 weeks of flower.

I scoped out bud from 4 different colas, on different spots on the cola, and they were CLEAN of any PM. Just beautiful trichomes.

What a relief!

Now I have to figure out how I'm going to wash my manicured Blue Dream that's been curing for a week. I hate the thought of getting the beautiful fruitful smelling buds wet but when I scope I see too much PM. It looks like trichomes without heads.

I have to keep the whole gallon of bud submerged for 5 minutes, anyone have a good idea for that?

I'm going to buy a salad spinner to get the worst of the water out of the buds.

Either all the PM wasn't killed or all wasn't washed off.

I've scoped a few sites low on the colas and there's still little headless trichome looking growths weaving around the leaf.

Not nearly as bad as it was before the wash but not completely clean.

.

Does anyone have another wash idea, other than H2O2?

My UVC light should be in tomorrow, but that'll just kill surface PM not that deep in the buds.

I've done a sulfur burn, stinky but the plants weren't affected too much.

The leaves on the plants came out well after the burn.

Sluracane clone, no signs of mildew.

Nizza what about the bud that's already harvested and cured? I've got 2 gallons of dried bud that have varying stages of PM.

I've gone over them twice with the CleanLight but there's no difference in the look of the PM.

I've emailed Dr Zymes support and asked if it's safe to do a wash in Eliminator after harvest. They claim it to be safe for humans so I'm hoping so.

It isn't good to consume or smoke powdery mildew, even if you think you've "killed it"
the washes are actually a way of telling if there is PM, you will see it fizz up like hydrogen peroxide does to a cut, this is usually done on outdoor crops
.

PM is everywhere. We inhale it and eat it without knowing it, but for some people with immuno deficiencies, or breathing problems, or other health problems it can be a huge problem. Even when cooked, it can make you sick.

I would cut your loss, and just move on and do whatever you can to prevent this for next time.
Are you growing in a basement?

I'm growing on the second floor.

I have a dehumidifier going 24/7 and take 3 gallons of water from the air each day. Balances with what the plants breath out.

I had temperature swings in the tent at 85 degrees C in the day and 70 C at night. Read that wide swings can promote PM growth.

Thanks

yes controlling those swings is the first step, PM lives for that
try for 5-10 F degree maximum differential of temp (I am assuming you meant 85 F and 70 F)

So you're using a dehumidifier, does this mean you keep all your windows shut?

do you think your area is properly insulated (so you aren't getting heat gain from the attic or 1st floor)?

Yes I keep all of my windows shut.

It's an old house but it's fairly well insulated.

I've got two gallons of bud with powdery mildew, Dr Zymes emailed me this morning and I can save the infected buds with a bath like the one I did with H2O2.

My name is Marybeth and I work for The Amazing Doctor Zymes, in the Horticultural Advisory department. I received your question about using The Amazing Doctor Zymes post harvest.

Yes, you can save most of the crop this way, but you will want to literally submerge the entire branch or the cut off buds, into the solution of The Amazing Doctor Zymes.

Use the 4 oz per gallon ratio to mix and submerge the flowers for up to 20 minutes. However you don’t need to leave them in that long. That is maximum.

The plant parts that are already damaged should just fall off, and the rest of the plants should be clean and protected.

Be sure to hang to dry with excellent ventilation and never try to dry too quickly. A slow, cool drying period is best.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me anytime.

Sincerely
Marybeth
