If I do this with an Fem Auto, will all off the seeds be Auto that will need to be sexed at start of flower?

For me the best way to make autos ... is reverse one and pollinate another with same strain. You are not involving a straight male and other traits. Like 2 solo grows of desired strain ... reverse one and dust the other ... toss sprayed solo.

when i self an auto , it can be a mixed bag if the DONER auto hasnt really been stabilized from the beginning. As a lot of breeders chuck S1 / F1 seeds to market. Some breeders run lines about 4/5 more generations before “ real “ stability.

Perfect example : Plant more than one auto of particular strain , and any look different in structure, health , pest tolerance, etc. probably show line HAS some work ahead. Some say herm recessive may show but I haven’t yet hit any. The hunt continues.

That KKP was a reg seed ( hazeman ) and their gear is pretty dope and consistent... so those S1
“ should “ show comparative performance and growth. But who knows ? I have 2 running in solos about a week old , then i will pop 4 more in about a week . I stagger them so i can watch their vegging and performance to determine which of those will have a mashup ...

This thread was created for those wanting to breed their own seeds .....

This is one method to get seeds from a strong female plant .... Although one could just take clones , this method will work on regulars and autoflowers , when cloning cannot be done. By SELFING a female plant , you will be able to capture the same characteristics of your host plant . No males are involved.

What you need :

Regular seedling / Autoflower fem or clone ( rooted )
Solo cup or small pot
Bagged medium
CS or STS for pollen making

First, pop your seed of choice or pick seedling / clone of choice. Make sure it is a healthy plant to start. You can either leave plant in solo ( and put under 12/12 ) or up pot .... allow for some bigger growth THEN put under 12/12.

I chose to grow a slightly larger plant than previous solo breeding this time .
Here the strain used is a Hazeman seeds- KKP KING KONG POISON ( Indy dom ) GG4 X DURBAN POISON cut. Simple bagged medium and water only grow . There is no need for
unnecessary feeding as we are only looking to make seeds and wanting simple requirements.

In a solo config , think of the solo cup challenges type of grow ... under 12/12 from start.
When plant begins to show sex , it will be time to spray .

I up potted slightly to grow it out a bit more ..... this plant will have mid and lower node areas sprayed and upper colas for pollinating / seed bearing. This plant will NOT be consumed .

This strain is quite hardy and was chosen to keep for more beans. !
Here is an example about 3 weeks old .

Some growers prefer STS over CS but if CS is at least 40 ppm , then it will work fine .
You can also DIY CS but I purchased Silver Mountain colloidal silver and it is 50ppm.

I am running the up potted plant under 12/12 today and will update the steps forward once she grows out and sexes under 12/12 schedule.

Stay Tuned.
When do you spray autos and if I chose 1 auto to spray with 4 plants I want to pollinate should I start them all together or start the 1 1st I scard of starting them all together because if the plant takes to long to produce pollen the plants I want to pollinate will be end of cycle

Just want to say a public thank you to @Budzbuddha.
I sprayed a plant with cs and kept her in a small 1L pot until she dropped pollen. Collected it (there wasn’t much but she was really small) and brushed it onto a single lower branch each on 2 autos I was growing in my grow cabinet.
Harvested them and collected over a dozen seeds off of each plant. Finished drying them yesterday and found some more. I will probably find more when I start to actually break the buds up for grinding.
If it wasn’t for this thread I would probably have never tried something like this. It really was simple to do, and I know exactly how to do it now in the future.
Once again, thank you for sharing information and letting others learn how to improve their skills and knowledge as growers.

Nice job Budz...

I too have made a point of crossing most of my autos as well as selfing those I've found most desireable...
Actually, my hobby has gotten a bit out if hand as I-have about 20 different vials of dried pollen mixed with baking flour as a dessicant..

That said..Ive made a boat load of S1's from most of my purchased strains..

The key to selfing autos, at least in my experience..is to start spraying the collodial silver before the plant goes into flower...as those lady balls often take about 3 weeks to appear...that way, the pollen is produced ASAP and you are going to have the most available pistils to pollenate as opposed to many of them already having matured and turning brown...

Keep up the good work..good thread!

MrToad
when do you start spraying your autos with the silver?

Depends .... if i run that 2 solo cup trick , i spray down that whole cup i chose to pollinate with CS around week 3 of growth ( just prior to its hardwired move to preflower around day 35 ish ( average ) ) that way as soon as it sexes out i look for nut formation.... as soon a s i see any i stop spraying and let that solo cup continue to grow pods.

By that time the 2nd auto in a cup will be around same transition and budset ( then shes ready for dusting ) i dust entire plant of this cup for seeds.
Toss original plant with nuts and then let this second cup just go and grow for a minimum of 6 weeks to allow good seed maturity . Since i am not consuming this plant , she can just do her thing until seed harvest. Then that cup is tossed.

If you want to SELF an auto already planted , then choose some lower branches to target for CS , mark them , spray node areas of branches you will use. Careful of any over spray to remaining plant.

Pods will form quickly if successful, then plant should be moving to its natural flower stage , carefully snip off pollen branches , collect pollen , then mark a couple of tops “ donated “ for seed making - dust them with brush or qtip. I pull plant when doing this as not to have any air movement throw pollen everywhere. Find a place with no air moving around plant - pollinate select bud sites .
Leave for about 20 minutes , dust again , 20 min later - Fine mist water to plant to null any stray pollen then back into tent ... grow as usual.

Now that Auto will have seed making buds PLUS normal buds for harvest.

Note : selfing brings more latent traits and you will have to really work phenos you want.

Using a totally separate ( same auto fem ) gives a bit more stability in seeds. At least from my own experiments.

When do you spray the nodes you want to turn male?

As most autos trigger to flower at like 35 day-ish, would I just spray the lowest nodes (whichever at that point i want male etc) at day 15 from germination to start the boy making?

10 days to soak in silver, then at day 25 potential to bud male parts right?

Thx! This is really fun :bigjoint:

I have made seeds successfully using @Budzbuddha method a couple of times now so can confirm it works, and is also as easy as anything. I posted above I found dozens of seeds, in reality when I went through the buds closely I ended up with about 70 off one plant and about 50 off the other.

I first sprayed on day 21 from my plant breaking ground both times I have done this. I sprayed a couple of times 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks each time and both showed signs of male parts around about day 42, so about 3 weeks from first spray. I have done selected branches and a whole plant this way - I did the whole plant as I wanted to try and store some pollen and wasn't too bothered about trying for bud from it.

I am currently growing a plant from one of my first lot of self made seeds, and she is just as good and healthy as a bought seed.

Be careful when you use the pollen - I had my first sprayed plant in with another one in a really small vegging cupboard, and the other plant had seeds even though I didn't intentionally try and pollinate it. It's not a problem as who doesn't want free seeds, but just be aware pollen gets everywhere!!

Thanks so much, appreciate the concise timeline. Always wondered about that.

Cheers, glad it works!!!! super excited to go on auto pilot mode with my grow.....too many amazing auto's out there, and toooo many fish that I haven't caught yet ;)

Update :

I have a bit lax on this thread but am starting a small seed project on the side of a grow review.

HSO BD ( BLUE DREAM ) x Banghi Haze F9 pollen ( thanks @icemudgrows )

Decided to mash some good sativas together .

HSO is in week 2 of grow and have picked the lowest budsites to pollinate . Tagged branches.
Even if it’s a few seeds , it will give me a jumping off point to further explore the cross.
