Can leave it or trim it off, they will still function and grow healthy if left on...but its upto you , I trim em off later if they grow in too small, but if they grow bigger I leave em on.
Try to FIM them where you dont affect other leaves, but hard when its so tiny sometimes...all good either way!

Why would you touch the fan leafs?
You only need to cut the growing tip/tips ime?

all examples i found and were a lot on the net , people cut fan leafs together with the tip , because i did this tonight without touching them fan leafs and was a bit hard/small i guess thats why they do it . I never saw a fim example with left intact fan leafs , but once i was upon do it i realized that the fan leafs could be left intact and asked because of biology ignorance !

Taking leaves of does seem to be popular, I've had very little experience in removing fan leafs but I have tried it and didn't like the result, that could be for for other reasons?
I do my plants the same as you have with the leafs left intact but I'm always happy learn.

May be just a tad too much off that tip, we will see ....if new growth starts from cut, in a couple days...then success!

I try to wait til new leaves are big enough to open up to get to the new growth tip to FIM.
Its a trial and error thingy. Sometimes you hit it sometimes we don't hence why its called "fuk I missed"
After you do it a few times and see them grow in youll know exactly where to clip next time!

Not the big ones...just the new growth tips if they are too close to the new shoot to get at, is what i believe Skyhound is talking about...lol
I originally thought it was about the new cut leaves that grow in after a FIM....so I think it was just a misunderstanding of the original question Skyhound was asking about.
