Any opinion on these lights?

About to finish my ordering of lights for a 12x12 space. I was about to pull the trigger on 3 HLG 650Rs, filling 3/4 of that space for now. $1,500 each light where i am from. I am still leaning heavily towards that option, but I saw this yesterday and have been trying to learn more about them. Photontek X 600W PRO, $1,100. They do not have Samsung diodes, but the stats look good. They had one assembled in the shop and it looks solid. I believe they are American? Not sure but I def don't want Chinese made. Any opinions on these would be helpful. I am not interested in building my own lights so that isn't an option.

Edit: this12x12 is a flowering room

HLG is a good choice. I have a bunch of HLG lights. Use code "RIU10" if you're ordering from the HLG site for 10% off.

Here's another option if you want strips. This link will give 5% off.

Timber makes good stuff too. I think their code was "TIMBER2020R".

That light is the North American market version of the Lumatek Zeus 600w Pro (which has been out longer than the Photontek light) I believe. The driver on the light says Made in China, but that's not surprising.

It's nice to see this light using LumiLEDs and Osram 660nm diodes. The Lumatek 600w Pro used the somewhat ridiculously named Lumled for the white diodes (sourced by Lumatek in China I believe), as well as 660nm Osrams.

Where are you located, Canada?

Yea i am in canada. Lights like this are hard to come by in person as far as I have seen. I expected to have to order my leds.

In your opinion, would you say the savings on upfront costs for this light would be worth the sacrifice in yield? Thats assuming that the 650r would produce more, being a higher watt draw...i am not very knowledgeable about leds so I am just assuming.

I appreciate the info and the code! Thank you.

Have you checked out Growratio? Two of their 1050w units would crush your space and give you more wattage for cheaper than HLG.
The 1050w is 1700 each. Add in the insane controller for 1950 a light and your still cheaper and more power than HLG.

3 HLG 650’s won’t cover 3/4 of a 12x12, that will cover in between 1/3-1/2

144 sq ft x 30w = 4,320w is the minimum you want for a space that size.

Covering a 12x12 with LEDs for around $4500 I think you should highly consider getting HLG’s DIY kits or going with China lights from Kingbrite/Meijiu. The HLG 600w kit is $1100

They China lights use Samsung diodes and Meanwell drivers and you would get much closer to covering your entire space within budget. A 600w Kingbrite would be around $800 CAD shipped.

So 1 HLG 650r will not cover a 5x5 space? I am not looking to have wall to wall coverage in the 12x12. (I should have mentioned this) I was thinking more like 4 5x5 spaces with room to move between them so i can trim, water, check over the plants etc. I have always hated not having any room to get in and at least look at shit. Bugs, checking for herms for instance. This is why i was considering 4 HLG 650rs the correct amount of lighting for my space. Basically a grid pattern with 2 foot spaces between the lights for me to squeeze into. I have much more room than 12x12, I could go 18x25 if i wanted. I just don't have the funds and i think that might be too much for me at this time. I am however considering building it to around 14x14 just so I have more room to move around, but still keeping the 4 light setup, maybe adding side lighting if I had it at 14x14. Ceilings are also 12 foot average, peaked Ceilings. If i was going to save money on start up i would simply use HID and put 4+ 1000w hps in the room...which i am still considering. I am wanting led for the electric issues as much as the heat issues. Electric as in running costs/needing to rewire, not legal concerns. I have a legal grow, 98 plant limit.

The reason i don't want to have to go through building my own lights is because I already have an extreme amount of shit going on with this aspect of my life and several others. Call it lazy but I would rather pay extra to not have to do it myself at this point. I am not extremely worried about costs for start up. Infact I am also considering abandoning the led idea, going hps and using the saved money on a minisplit and going for a sealed room. But i am apprehensive on that.

All that aside, does anyone have any direct experience with the lights i mentioned? Also thank you for your reply.

If you are going to do multiple 5x5's then the 650 would work, however 4.5'x4.5' would be more ideal putting you at 30w/sq ft.

You could get 4 HLG 600w kits for around the same price of the 3 650r's. It's really simple, snap some wires into connectors, grab some angle and cut and screw together. Wouldn't take more than a few hours but I understand if you have a lot else going on.

I would just grab two 650r's and 2 Gavita 1000w DE's. You definitely have the ceiling height. Save on start-up costs and you can get an idea if it would be worth it to replace the DE's with more LEDs. Not sure if you will be running multiple strains or monocropping but if you are running multiple strains having a combo of the LED's/DE's can come in handy. The DE's will give you a bit more penetration for the lankier strains.

Definitely go sealed. If the cost of the LED's is the deciding factor between going sealed w/CO2 & mini-split, then go with all DE's. Getting the environment dialed is the priority. You can always implement LED's down the road.

Yea climate is 100% my main concern but i sometimes forget this and get caught up in the lights aspect or having to redo my design. I have two veg rooms already done, running MH in them. It gets cold here and the area of the house the flowering chamber is going in is hard to regulate. The costs of the hvac was high enough to scare me off for now and try for that in the future but really that's just me having cold feet about something I have no knowledge of. At least no actual experience with. I have always had portable ac/extraction or equivalent, I have never had a sealed room, Co2 or minisplit. I know its the way to go though. My budget for the flowering room is around 6-7 grand but that includes lumber, fans etc etc.

I will be having multiple strains including some Mr.nice sativas, so light penetration was a concern. I have a somewhat decent seed collection that has been begging for this for years. I havnt started any of those beans yet, I am more just running a calibration test for the veg rooms with some freebie seeds while i build the main flowering room.

My plans have gone from going full sealed, to leds only, to single ended to double ended back to leds to propane heaters blah blah blah. Funds have increased recently so maybe I should just go fully sealed with Co2 and upgrade the lights after a few harvests.
