Easy autos or other strains to grow

I am new. I am not going to hide that. I was curious what strains for autos and non autos(yes I forgot what those are called) people thought were the easiest to grow. Preferably indica, but honestly just curious overall. I want to grow and get better. I have 5 plants growing outside now, but I want to start easy with less chance for failure till I understand things better.

So whatcha all say?

Hey Nos!

You are no doubt going to get many opinions with a question such as this, so let me start us off, with a few of my choices for easy to grow / beginner strains :)

Disclaimer - there are many reasons why you would choose one over the other - so which is best, depends 100% on what works best for you!

I find that, autos are easier overall, as they will flower in almost any condition, and simplify the whole process. Photos allow for clones, and as such, are my fav choice for growing

Photoperiods:

Northen Lights (Pure)
Easily one of the most popular indica strains out there, especially for beginer grows. Rather than explain it, look here:

White widow (Hybrid)
Again - a solid starter strain, been around for years, with an interesting background and a great starting hybrid.

NB: I prefer photos for mothers and her clones.

Autos:
The same strains above, make perfectly fine autos too - being fast, fuss free plants. My absolute fav auto grown was a blueberry. Again another classic indica, and honestly, a great place to start!

Happy growing!

New to the growing field too.
Especially autos. Here's my ongoing Northern Lights (seed went into the dirt July 01)
I literally have done nothing but give her water and topped her once
Just do your research, definitely talk to and check out threads here, and pick what's best for you!

Ya it's just overwhelming at times. You go to a seed bank website and it's like finding a needle in a haystack. I mean that as in there is just so many. I wish some had a "new growers" or "easy growers" section. I have top 44 growing now and it's been pretty easy going. I have "easy bud" as well seeds, but haven't started them yet

I know the latest craze with new growers is to grow auto's. For some reason they think that they'll just automatically grow. In reality is all they do is flower without changing the light cycle. But it takes 5 seconds to change the setting on a timer so they don't make anything easier. If anything new growers are going to be disappointed when they screw up their plants early on in veg and they start flowering before they can't fix anything. With photo's they can have the time to correct issues and get their plants healthy before taking the 5 seconds to switch the timer to 12/12.

You can harvest photo's as fast as most auto's just by having a short veg stage before switching to 12/12. Did I say that it takes 5 seconds to change the setting on a timer?

Better genetics with photo's.

There are scenarios for growing auto's indoors such as tossing one in a veg tent. But if you're growing a few plants in a tent from seed to harvest then why would you choose an auto?

I'm not against auto's and they do have their place. I grew one outdoors this year. Planted in May and harvested in August. They work great for an early outdoor harvest or outdoors where the growing season is short. In fact I'm planning on growing more outdoors next year. But for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would grow 3 - 4 grows a year indoors of auto's.

Just my opinion and if anyone has any reasons why they are growing auto's indoors other than to grow a flowering plant in a veg tent please speak up. I want to know. I'm open to learning why people do things. :peace:

Easy ? ....

Plants need the grower invovement in one form or another. If you are looking for no-frills growing , then a good ammended bagged soil
( happy frog / fox farms ocean / eb stone / Kellogg’s / dr. Earth ) have bagged mixes that will power an auto thru it’s life without adding bottle after bottle of Nutes. Most will only require a good grow environment / good lighting and basic watering needs.

Autos “ can “ be simpler to run at times , but there are different “ autos “ out there. ..... DWARF strains / Low Ryder crosses that make smaller compact plants ( micro grow / cabinet sizes ) and of course the standard category of autoflowers. There are good breeders and bad ones ( strains not consistent ).

IMO ( if for your own medicating ) and simplicity.... run 1- 2 gallon grow bags with good soil and some dwarfy strains to get your feet wet. White dwarf / Blue dwarf types will produce large single cola plants that allow you to see how they operate and flower on their own. 18/6 cycle all the way thru harvest. Later you can upsize strains and cycle as needed.

So running say 4 grow bags of autos will get you weed in about 90 days ( ish ).

Many here will guide you to good breeders .... I like Mephisto , Bodhi , Speed , Bomb seeds.
And if later you want Photo strains then there is a whole shitload of breeders to run.

Good Luck.

I thought this might help:

I am not promoting that you purchase your seeds from this seller, although I do find the filters on their site are very specific and I liked that.
This may help you narrow the gazillion strains available down to a more manageable list.

This site has been helpful to me as well:

If you haven't been there before, it has a lot of great info, and I like the way it is set up in a tutorial format.

Good Luck with your Grows,

Really I run separate rooms because I HATE changing timers. I'm so damn dumb I have to read the directions every single f'n time!! Yeah and then it's find the f'n directions. So changing times on my electronics timers is like a week long job.I keep hunting for mechanical times.

This all really great info. For those talking about photos. Honestly I'll probably switch eventually. I just was looking something simple and I don't really know much so I wasn't sure what is. I have a newborn so I need something that can be forgiving if I fuck up and miss something from sleep deprivation lol

Yes but then you have a free range teenager to contend with. After raising three I think I'll stick with the devil I have. Seriously, my instructions are where I left them! With a teenager that never happens.

Hey there welcome to RIU. I want to offer 1 thought.

Autos are not easy. Mess up and you lose time. You cant regain that time back. They are Finicky and easy to piss off right into stunted growth.

I suggest photo plants as you will beable to have time for them to recover from novice mistakes.
