Canna coco grow - canna nutrients & cal mag

Hi I am looking for some info on canna coco coir and canna nutrients with cal mag .

I have used canna coco with canna coir before and will be using all these nutes again= a+b ,Rhizotonic, Cannazym, boost , pk and Epsom salts , this was about 10 years ago when cal mag wasn’t easy to get .

My question is should I use cal mag from the start and still use Epsom salt when needed ?

I am germinating seeds (blue cheese & appleberry) should I start the cal mag straight away and how much per litre ? Also I am interested in what amount of nutes people are feeding from Start to finish as I ended up following cannas feed schedule and did not have many problems I always used less then they stated but my last grow I followed cannas feed schedule and was good but I know a lot of people go a lot lower then stated by canna ?

also I use to do 2 feeds with nutes and 1 flush With ph’d tap water all the way through the grow ( so 2 feeds with nutes 1 with plain water) I hear this is not necessary and to feed with nutes every feed ?

also I would like to know when people are using there pk I use to use it in about week 3-4 of flower for 2 weeks then flush for 1-2 weeks . Any suggestions on the best way to use it ?

Lets take it one by one. What is the EC of your tap water? If its between 0.3 and 0.6, you will not need calmag.

I start seedlings in 0.5ec strength nutes (my tap is 0.3) and you gradually build up. Canna coco nutes are not ideal for veg because the nitrogen content is too low. There are two ways to deal with this. Either add a nitro/veg suppliment specifically designed for hydro, or add silica which is basically just potassium; potassium increases nitrogen uptake efficiency.

And no you do not need to feed with plain water unless you're feeding ridiculously high numbers. Coco should never be fed with plain water as a general rule.

Check out cocoforcannabis for a good idea on ec rates. As always, read your plants and learn to identify any deficiencies. Good luck.

I've never understood why you would need to add calmag with coco specific nutrients. How are they coco specific if they don't include the additional Ca required when growing in coco? Oh wait, I do. They leave the Ca out so they can sell another product.

If you're growing in coco, using Jacks or Masterblend + calcium nitrate = no calmag needed. All you really need is a good micronutrient blend and calcium nitrate and you're good to go. No need for half a dozen bottles.

You're putting too much faith in all these nutrient products and worrying about which week for this and that and then flushing. Feed a balanced nutrient from seed/clone to finish, provide plenty of light, a good environment temp and humidity wise and you'll have healthy plants and a good harvest.

It's that simple.

If you're using tap water you may not need a calcium or magnesium supplement.......I never have to use it.

Always feed nutes to run off daily......never plain water.

Most coco specific nutes do include added extra calmag but there's no one size fits all. It's all contingent on the initial starting water.

As for the number of bottles, I agree to an extent but rhizo and pk are scientifically sound additions to any lineup if used correctly. Zym and Boost are anecdotal which is why I dont bother with them any more.

Most coco nutes have sufficient cal & mag in them.
I use Epson salt alongside whatever cal and mag is in my nutes.
Never no issues and it clears up the dreaded purple stems everyone talks about

I grow in coco with just a 4-10-20 with all the micronutrients and calcium nitrate 13-0-0 + 13% Ca. I add a very small amount of MKP 0-52-34 in flower and that's it. Very similar to Jacks or Masterblend which is 5-12-26. I've used the same formula in drain to waste and DWC. I've never purchased a bottle of calmag in my life and never have any deficiencies. It just works.

Telling him to use a whole different line than the one he's already bought and/or is familiar with isn't particularly helpful.
It's an online forum. People make posts and give their opinions. I was providing information on a proven nutrient regimen that does not require all the expensive cannabis specific products they're using. It's a simple, easy to use nutrient regimen that been proven and has been used for years to grow all kinds of plants by millions of people and nurseries around the globe. Cannabis is a plant. You don't need a dozen bottles of stuff to grow it.

It's much better information than those that recommend adding more of this and that or buy this and that, blah blah blah. I use 3 things and have been having great success for years without ANY issues or confusion on how to use it. I was tossing that out there in case the OP realizes that they don't need to add all this stuff, what week to use it, etc... and might realize that there is a better way. I don't work for the nutrient companies and my only goal is to see people have successful grows. And from the looks of so many posts on so many sites people are having all kinds of nutrient issues even though they are using products that supposedly are designed for cannabis.

Most people would have better success and a more trouble free grow if they didn't use all these bottles of cannabis specific nutrients that are nothing more than what's in several simple to use and inexpensive products. That's a fact. If telling him about using simple basic nutrients instead of what they're using might help with the grow then I'll continue to make the same types of posts. There is no reason anyone should make a post with 6 questions asking how to use a cannabis specific nutrient line. When to feed this, how much of that, which week to add that. It's just ridiculous and unnecessary.

KISS A concept lost today. Today it seems like the goal is to make things as complicated as possible.

So yes. I think they should ditch those nutrients and move on from that nonsense.

No offense to you or anything but that's where I'm coming from. :peace:

Does it matter which brands of this stuff you use? Do you have particular brand you recommend?

I don’t think so as I do a General hydroponics copy 3 way and don’t do cal mag at all, started coco doing it and as I got used to it I realized the cal mag suggestion is a lack of understanding coco is all. Xtsho is the one making sense from my perspective, usually where people suggest cal mag it’s completely underfed, cal mag helps a bit but still comes up deficient, for strong plants up the feed rate but stop feeding at 3-4 weeks of flower.

Any 3 part formula from one of the large agricultural distributors will be fine. Jack's, Growmore, SouthernAG, Masterblend, ICL, PlantProd all make a similar base salt, then combine with cheap Yara Calnit and epsom and your making solutions for about $0.02 gallon
