Had to sent back the 1000watt mars hydro lights. I felt they were very weak for the veg tent i was using them in which was 8x8 tent. What are some decent cost but effective LEDs out there.

If you're planning on using the entire 64 sq ft for veg, I'd shoot for 15 watts/sq ft using top-tier diodes.
That about 250 watts/4x4 trays.
If you need to use less efficient diodes, I'd add at least 1/3 to the total wattage to make up for the reduced ppf.

15 watts per square foot? I wouldn't consider using any light less than 35 watts per square foot. 35W-50W is usually the recommended range for wattage per square foot. 35W with higher quality lights and 50W with lesser.

If you are referring to the Mars Hydro TS1000W light, that is only a 150W and only good for 2.5 sq.ft. of bloom coverage (at least to the Amazon ad).
You could probably pickup two 4x4 coverage QB LEDs for cheap that would properly cover your space. Ask over in the LED section for suggestions. Good luck!

If it has to be led and your on a budget the hlg 550 or equivalent in knock offs. You need 4 of em if your using entire area.

I'm referring to just a veg light. You don't need as much ppf for that growth stage. 15 watts/sq ft using lm301b's is plenty.

Another low power option would be cmh, I use cmh for veg and cover a 4x4 area with each one. So 1260 watts for veg isn't too bad. I think with led your gonna wanna be around 1000 watts with 4x250 watt fixtures, problem is they don't spread out the coverage the way hid does. It's my understanding that led are more like a flashlight in that they are pretty directional source of light. So not sure what kinda coverage you can get from 250 watts.

You would need 2 of them... but you'd be killin it lol Those lights are beasts. You can always go the DIY way if you feel like building your own lighting to fit your needs. That can save you some cash too.

So yes they could be primarily for veg but i am not opposed to having some that I can use for flower as well. The only reason i said led due to me already running 4 hps lights just trying to help on the bill. So looking for best LEDs to cover 8x8 for about $1k tops

same wattage from hlg would kill the nextlights. buddy I know ran them one each in a 5x5 total of 2. I mentioned that hlg is better and he tried hlg then he saw a difference just in yield bout it. now running 2 320s in each 5x5 and killing it.
