auto outdoor grow reports

I thought about posting this in the Outdoor section, but I don't want to get into discussions about the pros and cons of autos, so I thought I'd try it here.

Because of the short grow season where I live, I've gone to 100% auto strains for my outdoor growing. I'm curious how other growers are doing, successes, failures, lessons learned. I started growing photos in 2015, and in 2018 started mixing in some autos before going full auto last year.

I've grown them in pots and in the ground, and found that some plants when put in the ground without root limits will really take off, so this season they were all in the ground. We have really bad budworm issues, so the last two years I've grown under bug netting (much easier to do with autos since they tend to stay under 5' tall). The netting works great, but has some drawbacks. It cuts the light about 20-30% depending on the quality of the net, and also cuts airflow (haven't read a stat on how much). I blame the airflow issue for the mold I've been finding, although I'm not sure if autos are simply more susceptible to mold?

I popped seeds later than usual, 6.11 this year, and took them down between 8.28 and 9.3. Depending on the month and placement in the garden, the plants got between 5 and 7 hours of direct sunlight. The ones taken down in August were a bit early, but they were showing mold so I had to cut them. I've jarred 4 of 6 so far, and even with taking them down early and losing about 10% to mold, I'm averaging about 5.8 ounces per plant (ranging from 4.9 to 6.7).

So, how are your outdoor auto harvests going? Are you growing in pots, if so, what size? Share any info, techniques, issues you feel like --

Thanks

Was wondering where you get your seeds?

I had been getting them from Mephisto, but it's getting more and more difficult to get what I want from them. I used to be able to place an order twice a year and have a good selection, now it seems that when they do a seed drop you've got to jump on whatever they are offering and hope your order is in before they run out.

This grow was 100% Mephisto, and I have enough seeds to carry me through next summer's grow, after that, I'll have to see what is available.

I'd start looking to expand on auto options. I keep seeing Rocbud get alot of attention. I also see Wicked Pissah but haven't even read about them. Rocbud could be the next Mephisto(from 2 years ago and nit current state).

Thanks for that, I'll check them out

Your climate sounds somewhat like Holland. Perhaps you could check out the Autos from Dutch Passion, Paradise seeds, or other Dutch breeders.
I recently tried to order seeds from Dutch Passion, some of their auto strains sound outstanding, but on the order page the U.S. was not an option in the "choose your country" list, so I guess they don't sell to us, at least not directly.

Are you breeding your Mephisto strains ?

The only breeding I've done so far has been with photos, I've never used CS which from the limited research I've done is the way to make seeds from an auto. It seems like a great idea since Mephisto seeds are getting so hard to find, but I'm not sure how that method would work in an outdoor, and at the moment I'm only growing outdoors. I think it might be hard to control the spraying outside? At least when I was working with pollen it was a one time application, and then I bagged the branches and then later I could wet them down and the whole deal was done. I'd have most of a plant to smoke, and one branch with seeds.

Maybe I can do a small indoor seed-only crop this winter... I'll think about it. Thanks for the suggestion (even though it was directed at mattymatt726).
