Waiting on my sip setup from Build a soil! I purchased two og earth boxes, grokashi, em-1, ewc, bu’s compost, tm-7 and oyster shell. Will be using new Mother Earth Groundswell soil. Can y’all think of anything else? Did want to pick up some guano also. How often should I top dress with new soil? 3ish is average with recycled soil, but what about new? 4? Any help or suggestions is appreciated!
Oh and 4 1 gal car boys with fermenting caps to expand the em-1

All that info is in this thread, first and second page. But since I'm here, I'll repeat it for the 100th time.

Guano isnt needed, but it can help, strian depended. I top dress around once a month, and depending on flower time, either once or twice during flower. Lastly, those earth boxes will work amazingly, but dont expect to grow monsters the size that I do in that little bitty pot.

Look at these sips like a tank of gas, and the plant as a truck. The bigger the gas tank the farther you can drive, the bigger the truck the faster it will drink said gas. Top dressings do give you a little something, but once the soil is depleted that's that. With this method there is no feedings, and no nutrients. Granted the soil wont run completely out of everything, but it will run out of certian things, which can cause problems and lock out.

I can confirm this!!! I'm going to use them in tents over the winter and keep them small, but not my big room. It's like you have to switch them to flower as soon as they take hold because they will grow FAST. My biggest problem with Earthboxes is that they don't hold enough water and they dry out and I cannot keep them moist. Water every other day and they are bone dry, not cool.

My tent is 3x3 and I want some variety so I had planned to keep them small. I will mostly likely switch to larger sips when I have more room or get tired of watering. Thank you for your response.

Your very welcome, I hope it all works out well for you. My advice, I'd recommend reading through the first 2 pages, maybe 3 or 4 if your really feeling frisky, lol. But a huge chuck of the info is right there in the beginning. The other 20 pages is mainly just us bullshitting, showing updates, some changes, and ppl asking questions.

But 90% of ppls questions will be answered in page 1 or 2, but after that if you still haven't found the answers to your questions, feel free to post and ask, everyone here (for the most part) is more than willing to help, and pretty cool ppl.

I may have started this thread but I dam sure dont know it all, probably never will. But between all of us, and with everyone's help we can figure out just about anything. So no need to be shy, post your results!

Speaking of heres some of my current ladies, shown is a 4x8 holding 2 30g sips. Total of 3 ladies, 2 in one sip, and 1 in another. I do have a tad bit of yellowing going on, simply bc I skipped the last top dressing, and I've just been super busy with everything. But in my opinion, I could care less about a few leaves yellowing off, truthfully during the last two weeks of flower, I prefer to see most of the foliage fading away and dying off.

That would work just fine, but as mustang stud said, once they take root, I'd say maybe a foot or so tall, need to flip to 12/12. They will run out of juice quick, even with top dressings. Also again as stud said, be ready to water every other day, possibly more. But with that said you should get some gorgeous results!

Also, I think a 3x3 is a bit small to fit a 30g sip, so right call there in my opinion. I prefer to run 1 30g sip, per 4x4 area. Always seems to fill out, and cover the space very nicely for me!

What about doing something like this in a 10 gallon tote?? I don't need a huge space, just need a place to grow a couple of smaller ones.
I have 6 ladies in 5 gallon sips now no vermiculite or anything in the rez. (Personally I think that just takes up water spaces but each to their own and it is working)

Oh and 4 1 gal car boys with fermenting caps to expand the em-1
In 4 months I've used 1 quart of expanded EM1 in a single 18gal SIP and ended up having to toss half of what I made and start over.

Not sure how much soil those earth boxes hold, but I'd be prudent on how much EM1 you expand at a time. It only takes about 2 weeks to expand if you need to make more.

Also, i use a plastic container to expand the EM1... exposure to air effects longevity. Plastic bottles can be squeezed before closing to remove excess air from the container as you use some of the expanded EM1, glass cannot. But if you use a plastic container (i use poweraid/Gatorade bottles) you have to manually burp them regularly.

if you want authentic great SIPs go to the sub irrgated planter thread that was started years ago and download the original free source pdf and use that as your guide. Remember K.I.S.S.
I've learned a shit ton from that thread, havent been there in a while, hell I'm barely even here anymore. But that's for sure great advice, I've learned countless things from that thread. I've got the link to it, and a few other threads I've found info on somewhere in the beginning of this thread.

Thanks again! I’ve read through the thread a couple times, but I am new to growing and don’t want to fuck up. I guess that’s when the real learning takes place though. Once I get everything up and running I will post some updates.

Nice! That’s def a full tent. How do you plan on supporting the ladies? I remember your older sips with a pvc attached scrog. I don’t see it in these pics.

Thank you. The earth boxes hold 2 cu ft or 15 gallons and I will be running two in my 3x3 tent. I guess I got too many expanding supplies for now, but they will get used eventually. Thanks again for the advice!

Yes this round, I didnt actually have the scrogs ready in time, so I decided to try without them. I've got 2 ideas for supporting the colas, one would be basic yoyos hanging from the ceiling, and the other using bamboo steaks to hold up the biggest ones. Kinda just playing this as it goes.
