Samsung H series strips, Arrow seems to be blowing them out! what a deal!

thanks man ...i found um on Jameco electronics.
I picked up 2x HLG-240H-48a to play with. (135$usd shipped)I went ahead and followed advice from most and got two drivers vs one bigger one.

First two diy lights will be 12x h series strips wired 2series x 6 parallel for 20ish watts a strip. no heatsink yet.
Using those to replace a bunch of 100w corn type led bulbs that burn up very fast. The bulbs i have are round so over 50% of the light is being wasted.

Curious to see what route you go for heatsinking/framing. What size area are you trying to cover with these builds?

I'm still trying to figure out my plan for my cheap strip purchases. Baking sheets seem to be a cheap and easy option for what I have in mind, but would like to see what other people do to with these strips for ideas as well.

scroll back a page or 2 and you will find 4ft aluminum channel for $1 shipped. WIll work great unless you are running them hot and need bare aluminum

how hard can i run these bare. got to page 7 re reading. thought i saw someone using 20w each bare but havent seen it yet. thinking to get 10-15 xlg 240m ab

I tired to get those 4ft channels x 90 but havent heard back. couldnt ship to ontario, only states available. if i select where to buy its down the road 40 units. shouldnt be too hard to throw those 90 4ft strips on the next delivery? dont think im getting that deal anyhow

i not going to use a heatsink for this build , im going to use some type of frames to hold it all together but thats it.
What ive learned from good folks here and my own experience is that you only need heatsinks when running them hard. If we paid a bunch of money per strip then my outlook would be diffrent.
These H series strips can handle their rated max without needing a heatsink but im sure you'll lose efficiency and the life of your diodes should decrease by...a lot.

im gonna run mine at 20 watts each with no heatsink , so i'll let ya know soon as the drivers get here.

I believe it was haze who is running them at about 17 watts each with no heatsink.
i just "built" a light for my house plants with 2 strips at about 15 watts each with an old blurple driver.
2x H series strips
1x high quality , made in the USA piece of cardboard
2x drop of superglue to hold the strips to the cardboard.


just checked.... boards are warm on top ..... and diodes are "hot" to the touch. (a good guess is about 110-120f at the "Tc" )

Pretending the white tubes are framing, you could easily run your strips across for a no heatsink build. At what wattage you should make the change to heatsink I am not sure about... I should have ordered more strips.. if anyone has a few extras they wont be using lol

You have 20+ strips on 2 wire nuts? lol but in all honesty 100 wire nuts at home depot are $7 and 100 4 port push connectors are $8.50... I'll splurge on the push connectors but understand that could be a 10pc chicky nuggy's from BK in someone else's eyes

All that being said , i have not tested anything with a meter so i cannot say 100% that a wirenut is less resistance then a wago...... common sense just says to not use any connectors unless you have to for less overall resistance.

I think around 10w per foot is ok for 24mm/1" wide strips.

HAHAHAHAH for real though. them tiny wirenuts are junk , i agree, specially with the tiny wires coming off these junk drivers. They work great but you have to pay special attention to each one.
When im hanging lights for a customer , first thing i do is open the box and throw away the directions and the junk wirenuts...

Im still playing around with these free blurple drivers , so my tests are tainted and most of all my test are limited to : do they come on, voltage and current.
Where would i get the most voltage drop on a circuit in series ? thanks guys!

Really just kind of winging it with these fixtures I'm gonna slap together, but these sheets seemed pretty versatile for the price. Will be able to fit 16x f series double rows and then 16x of the 90cri strips (4 each per sheet) for a pretty simple set up. I may try and cut the extra one up a bit and see how that goes, but hopefully will have these sheets in hand fairly soon so I can try and get things set up.

i searched arrow for a couple hours last night. Nothing on the cheap side unless you wanna use lm561b diodes. losing even more effeminacy with those but still worth the price , probably. They have 3k on up.

Haha for sure its gonna be overkill, but lots of room to crank things up if/when the time comes. I'm still waiting to purchase a house, so figure stocking up on some things now won't hurt as money will be getting a little tighter soon. Plus, this kind of stuff helps take me away from the monotony of work and every day life, so worst case scenario I'll help get some of my buddies started when they decide to grow their own.

I have been digging too.. No deals I could find on Samsung but the EB series 2 is just over $2 per ft currently. They are twice the price as the H strips deal but you are getting 2x the diodes. 4 footers are going for $8.40 on digikey and that is for 224 diodes. They only have 3500K at the moment but that should be fine for veg and/or flower.

Can you link me to some of the EB's ? im gonna have to do some research and check the numbers .... Surely they are higher then the lm561b's im seeing.......im pretty sure they are as good as the samsungs but not 100% on that. (whatever series i was looking at a few weeks ago were 180 lm/w i think....so not a lm301 but very close)

This is 16x H series spaced 2" apart ......im trying to cover a 2'x4.5' veg table. Im trying to keep total wattage under 240. my first build is too much for the size.(Pvc and tent poles)
