How do i cure root rot or suffocating roots?

Hi!

I have 6 big bud plants that i think may be suffering from root rot or suffocating (see pic).
I have been told that if i add more perlite to my soil it will help the drainage but do i need to do anything first before i re=pot the plants?
Would it be a good idea to trim the roots first?
Any advice welcome.

Before you do anything gently pull a plant out of its pot to inspect the roots,if they are bone white they are good to go,if they are brown or light tan you have root rot,if the root rot is minimul & the plant is not pot bound you can add peroxide to your water to stop the rot & help heal the roots.

If you have severe root rot you can pull the plant,gently loosen the soil around the root mass & trim off the rotten roots with sissors,then repot in a mixture of 50% potting soil,20% perlite,20% top soil & 10% sand,more than likely this will put your plant into shock for a few days or even a week but it will recover & grow new roots quickly.

When you water add a splash of 3% peroxide to your water,this will bring more air to the roots as well as help purify the soil around the root mass where rot may be hidden.

To help prevent root rot add 2 inches of gravel or perlite to the bottom of your pot before adding soil,i use perlite when i know i'll be transplanting to lagrer pots & gravel once their in their final pot.

Thanks for your help, i have followed your instructions and hopefully the plants will be ok in a week or so. The roots were all bone white so just added perlite to some fresh soil mix with sand etc. Will buy some peroxide to treat them with.

i germinated my seeds in a custom made fogger, the roots are hanging in the air and i am experiencing brown/tan roots

i dont know how this could be root rot because the roots are hanging in the air, not only that, i have the fogger only on 15 min every hour, that leaves plenty of time for just air to get to the roots, somemthing is not right, any suggestions?

i never germ in a paper towel and havnt in like 6 years and never have a problem so who is this everyone you are talking about ther is more than 1 way to crack a seed and if he has roots hanging in air than i don't see how his didnt germ right?????????

my seeds germinated fine, the seedling poped open the first leaves are starting to pop out, but the root that is suspended in air in the res with the fogger is brown/tan

Excellent information panhead, I have the same question only my medium is hydroton. Are my only options peroxide / trimming?
