Going from HPS to LED. Worth it?

What are you getting extra for your money?
You can go any day and buy a 600w ballast and reflector ready to go for £80\90.
I say being a led owner!

It might have been a different thread but a chap payed x amount for a led light with the money he could have got a full growing set and achieved better results iirc he wasn't to impressed.
@mistergrafik have you grown with hps before?

Sorry I meant in led, a good one allegedly costs a fortune so what are you getting for money?
I'm familiar with plasma lighting but it's not highly rated for flowering it's more a veg light afaik.

I love HPS. I used to MH my veg and HPS my flower. They require ballasts controllers etc. for the full effect. Electricity costing and heat around the world has changed my ways. Also space. My unit is one piece and it works great for flowering. But to each their own - dank is dank! :eyesmoke:

It will work, just like vegging with CFL’s or T5’s will but it’s still not going to perform on par with QB’s or strips of Samsung diodes.

If you want to increase resin supplement UV. Supplemental UV can increase THC & terps up to 30%.

LEDs last longer and generate more light per watt, which means better efficiency. You can run an LED for years before it needs to be replaced, versus an HID lamp. Also, the drivers are smaller than the ballasts. HLG are expensive, but there are cheaper options that are full spectrum. The costs and effiency continue to rise as well

I never said my nuggys don't have resin - but thank u for the tip :eyesmoke: ! I should get some UVB bars and supplement them at the end of my flower for a few hours a day maybe

DIY is the way to go. You can build a light just as good as the top dollar ones for less than $1/watt.

This is the thread you seek. Results show that UVB isn’t necessary.

As some of you might know, former member Or_Gro did a side-by-side comparing three different types of LED boards with supplementary UV reptile bulbs. He also did a control grow without any UV at all. The test results are interesting because UV clearly works – an increase of almost 20%! But...

That is comparing added UVB vs no UVB. Not UV/UVA vs UVB. The point is that supplementing UV/UVA has around the same effectiveness as UVB. Not that UVB isn't effective.
