Couple of years, maybe more in your fridge.

Remember that they may not be fresh when you get them.

Spores really should not be stored in water though. If you squirt some into a sterile dish or on sterile paper and let it dry the spores will last 5 years or more.

Better than those inoculated kits, I ordered one it arrived was busy threw it in the closet a month later remember go open it
First thing I see is
“Refrigerate on arrival”

Oops

I would use a spore syringe within 6 months of receiving it, and definitely refrigerate. Also check out your options other than 101, I personally used spore works in the past with good results but they don't ship to canada anymore :(

I just found some spore syringes from many years back. Is there anyway to tell if they are still viable short of just trying to inoculate some medium?

Same as those research chems they sell in the bodybuilding realm. You want some clenbuterol for your rat testing purposes? All my rats lost significant amounts of fat while on 75mcg ed 2 weeks on/off :bigjoint:

They mean "if we state what these are really for we will be shut down"

The microscopic view of spores is mostly scanning electron microscope.

You probably don't have one.
Any pics of spores under a microscope? Would love to see if they are alive or what they look like

You wouldn't know it they are "alive".

Spores go through a progressive desication. Take ten million spores. Wait six months and a portion of them will have given up all moisture. Another six months and another fraction will.

After a time, years maybe, only one in 100 will be viable you wouldn't notice because there are still plenty that will germinate.

After enough years all of them will dry out.

Now, there is a way to reintroduce enough moisture to enable a spore to germinate anyway but it involves placing spores under a vacuum in water.

What is still unknown is what happens to spores thar are perpetually immersed in water. The consensus is that eventually those spores will just "dissolve" or break down in solution.

I have managed to revive oyster mushroom spores from 7 years dormancy. I cannot speak to their overall viability but there is no reason they could not get to fruition and subsequent spore production through fruiting.

I have seen 3 year old spore "syringes " that would not under any condition yield viable mycelium.

I have seen some very few aqueous spores take up after 4 years.

I cannot vouch for their previous care.

Refrigerated? Dunno. Exposed to light? No clue.
