Very nice. It's so hard to believe their 550 can cover a 4x4 when it's so tiny. I'm sure it's bright as the sun, but I can't see the side coverage being good as these units that are basically 3x the size
If that were true you would see grow lights growing 15 ft bushy plants like the sun does

I agree not enought light for 4x4. I have 500w in a 4x2 with 11 short bushy girls and it's just enough I feel for max efficiency.

On that note HLG kicks ass. And is dope. Just wanted to come here and defend CA Lightworks.

Don't let my last comment distract. That room may never happen, but this tent is going to be in use for years to come no matter what.

If I'm not happy with a 550 in this tent, I know I need a bigger light for bigger projects. I can always sell the light to my buddy who is moving into a new house next Jan. And upgrade again if needed.

Nothing is a bright as the sun lol. Check the specs from the company, I’ve seen people use multiple led lights to provide coverage instead of one big QB
Yep. I have 2 HLG 135's in my 2x4 veg tent, and 5 different HLG lights in my 3x8 closet. I prefer multiple lights, but if I was growing in a huge room, the bigger lights would be my choice.

The 600 is replacing the 550. They're phasing out the 550 now. That's a good option, I just like the spread of the 2 320's better. I also like having multiple lights better than one big one. Then I can adjust them to different heights if I want, and if one of them had a problem I'd still have one going at least. The drivers are eventually gonna go out. I like the looks of their new Scorpion versions too.

You really can't go wrong with any HLG stuff.
Thanks for the help. I see what you're saying, and def take it into account.

How the hell do you like a post?

I'm leaning toward a 550 just bc it is right in my price range. If my first experience is good, I plan on having a budget of 2.5k-3k around the new year just for lights in 12x14 bedroom conversion. I want to go cheaper now so later when I upgrade to a whole room I have a bigger budget. This is almost like a proof of concept run with this tent.
Take it one step at a time, grow as much plants as you can with what you have then add more eventually

Well, I decided to say fuck it, and I dished out the cash to get the new HLG 600. On its way, along with a new batch of seeds from Seedsman.

Is it okay to use the 2 blurple LEDs (Yehsense 1000's) I have lying around for a veg tent, then switch to my 4x4 with the HLG 600 to flower? Or is the difference in light too great? This is no big deal, bc I have my hands full just with the 4x4 going from seed to flower with the HLG. The smaller veg tent would be for starting a semi perpetual grow later, once my first grow has been switched to flower.

Sure, use your blurple LED's for veg and than when you stick them under your HLG dim it down and bring it up as the plants become accustomed. Congrats on your choice.

Thanks for that link. It looks doable. IDK how to like a post, otherwise I would have
it sounds like you work for HLG lol. They are the same hahaha, my spider farmer 4K is working great right now, it has Samsung LM301B diodes which are bright. They are the same things you can’t knock off one for being Chinese made, you do know almost everything we have here in US is Chinese made lol.

First time grower, looking to spend at most $550 on a non-blurple LED for my 4x4

I'm trying to decide between Mars Hydro TS3000, California Lightworks SolarXtreme 500, and the Spider Farmer SF4000.

Will the SolarXtreme really cover a 4x4 being so small? Is the extra 100$ worth spending on the SF, or is the Mars Hydro enough?

Thoughts please. If you have better options than these for a 4x4, I'll look at those, too.
I like my SF4000 it’s good, it’s quiet, cool, bright and efficient Samsung diodes, and last but not least reliable. But you got the lights already it is what it is, it’s what you like , mind telling me what kind of lights the HLG is when you reply, I’m replying to a bunch of others I can’t find any of your earlier posts stating it.

The majority of people on RIU don’t like SF or Mars because they are way overpriced China lights and they have poor customer service. If you want a budget China light you might as well go with Meijiu or Kingbrite which are essentially the same lights for half the price.

Id rather have 2x Kingbrites or Meijius for the same price as an SF or pay slightly more and get an HLG.

Yes but the only difference in lights it’s either it’s spec and features, and it’s design. Prices seem fair to me for the what your getting, ex specs, design, features like dimmable drivers etc

And I’m not sure about their customer service never tried I got mine working great, it makes no noise, it has a warm touch to the top of it, not burning hot, and it looks great the design and the diodes. But if they do have a bad rep for customer service then that is a pretty big no no I would agree.

Ya, they're awesome lights. Order direct from HLG with code "RIU10". I would rather have 2 of the 320's though instead. Better spread and more options. It wouldn't be much more. They're $435 a piece after the discount, so $870 total shipped.

Also they're discontinuing the 550's. They're all gonna be 600 soon.
It's strange, but the few day period of this thread is exactly when they phased the 550 out. When I first started this thread, they had the 550 for 600$ on clearance and $450 for a refurb. Now the only 550 on the site is the Rspec Veg for $850....

If I did want a 550 cheap, I missed the deal, but I'm happy spending $750 after discount on the brand new 600. That's assuming it performs like it's supposed to. I'm so excited to get this light!

Should be a good buy. I believe the veg light is a Bspec. Anyway congrats on your choice.

I dont know but its so cheap. Never ordered of them.
Already went with HLG, had shipping problems but HLG is not at fault and they're fixing the issue fast.

If I didn't get the 600Rspec, I was going to get 4 QB96 kits with either 2 480 drivers or 1 960 or whatever it is. I may still get them. Those puppies run at 220 watts each at very reasonable temps and awesome coverage with the right spacing. Building a housing is so damn easy. Literally just 6 pieces of L aluminium attached together.
