Hello all, first time posting. I’m currently growing a bag seed plant in some miracle grow (which I recently found out was a big no-no) under a 50 watt light. Plant is currently just under 6 weeks old and on its second week of 12-12. My main concern is not being able to positively sex the plant (I think I can see some fine hairs on top of the new growth). But I’m also worried about it being so leggy and not filled out. Not sure what to expect for yield as Iv never grown before and not sure about strain. Any advice or pointers would help a bunch!

Yes, mg sucks. Major problem is that light. It is too weak and from the look of it, too far away. If you're running a 50w blurple, it should be only a few inches from your plant. Can't really see much for the sex. Watch your branch nodes, that is where your pre-flowers will show up and show you male or female.

As embarrassing as it may be, I didn’t understand the difference between actual watts and equivalent watts and was in too deep too soon to change. I Was very bummed out when I learned I had 50 watts and not 300 from my 3 lightsBetter lighting. She's stretching so much

Do you have a budget for a new light to flower with? If you want some weight on that.. ur gonna need it.. or.. strip everything off except fan leaves. Leave the top and 2 nodes of bud sites Your light will not help anything lower than that.
Not too confined by a budget really, I plan on definitely putting some more cash into the lighting department and lights don’t seem to be too incredibly expensive. Just a 19 year old kid trying to grow a few plants in his basement so I don’t really need a full on professional set up lol.

It looks pretty good given the lighting it’s getting. It’s not too late to have a good grow here. As it’s your first grow, be patient and don’t worry about yield, worry about each step as it comes.
I’d suggest getting a cheap 2x2 tent, I have a topolite 2x2 which ran me about 65$, and it’s actually pretty damn good. I can judge because I had a secret jardin dr90 in the past. Also get a maxsisun pb1000 or 2 Or pair it with a Marshydro ts600 for flowering, Reccomending this because this is what I have and my bagseed plant is praying. Also a decent clip on fan or Honeywell fan to circulate some air. If you can get this within the next week and set it up you can put (hopefully) her, in that and revert back to veg lightcycle while she’s still not in noticeable flower her And start to LST. Then youll set yourself up for a decent yield.

Wow that looks like my first plant did. Definitely put the light closer, that was my big mistake. I ended up biting the bullet and got a small 150w led and the growth exploded on it in a week. If you give it what it needs it will work out.
One thing to keep in mind, just making it to harvest, even if only a few grams, is huge. Take all this as a lesson learned and use it next time. Best of luck!

Thank you so much! I added another 40 watt led so I’m at 90 watts right now which should be better. Some bud sites are starting to develop and I’m beyond excited
It’s going to be a tough few weeks having to watch the buds grow and not harvesting early. Thinking about doing 3-5 auto flowers and scrogging or manifolding them under some better lights next

Why do you have it down in that tote?
Not entirely legal where I live so I have to keep it somewhat hidden. I have two totes stacked together and cut out the middle portion and my lights are affixed to the top lid.
