Struggling to keep temp and humidity up

I have a small plug in heater, a fan, and I've been spraying the grow box when I can until my humidifier arrives. I'm currently at 65 F and 44% humidity. The problem is the humidity has been around 30%. Is that okay? I feel like she looks okay but what are your thoughts?

65 is a bit low, but your humidity is ok at 44%. I’ve been growing some plants during winter for the first time recently. I have a 250watt personal heater on a timer that turns on at lights off, sitting right next to the intake and it’s working really well, it’s currently 15F outside and 75F in the tent. I would shoot for mid 70s for your temp if possible. I recommend using a heater that puts out as much heat as is leaving your grow space to avoid cycling and temp changes.

Thank you for the insight! I may try using the heater at night vs trying to peak the tent temperature during the day. It has been getting down to mid thirties at night and about 57 in the tent. It makes it up to mid 60s during the day in the tent but I was hoping mid 70s.

Would wrapping the tent with some insulation material help? I also want to build a small 2x4 and plywood platform to get it off the ground

The insulation would help, but that’s pretty labor intensive. If you can get a space heater with a thermostat and set it to 70F and place it in the room the tent is in, that would solve your problem. Your nighttime temp would stay at 70F and during the day the temp would be above 70F with the added heat from the light. A blanket over the top would be a easy way to add insulation.

I'll throw a blanket over the top :) also, is there a RH that is too low? I have a humidifier on order but im getting to low 20s

I struggle greatly with temp during the winter, my place is cold! My goal is to keep the pipes from freezing so I usually turn the heat on at 50 deg F at night and let it warm up to 65ish-I don't keep a thermostat set, wastes too much propane. In between I do use one of those oil filled radiant space heaters, and it does help having some intake ducting pointed at it. Also, the biggest thing that helps me is running my lights at night, when it's coldest. You can grow some killer bud with cold temps as long as you keep the humidity down and take biological measures to prevent fungal disease. I don't get the same yields during cold weather, but the intensity of color is amazing!

My humidity rarely gets above 10% and my weed is ok. You'll be fine until your humidifier gets here. It's easier to grow within VPD parameters but it's possible to be successful outside them.60325642736__8B6D6D11-FBAD-48EF-B7AE-1B87DB819B4C.jpeg

being in such a low humidity environment i don't think would be horrible at all helps u not need to run a dehum and u can just let the plants transpire.

If you are going to build a raised platform, frame it and make 2 rooms (if u have space). I did the exact thing with HDepot foam insulation board. It reflects good and you are flexible with holes. I built on platform 8ftx3.5ft. Flower is 5ft, veg 3ft. Make door out of insulation foam board..you can make a bigger door.

Try to use a corner so you have 2 walls already. I grow in a unheated shed with inkbird 308 for heat and cooling.

That's a dream! I would love to do that eventually but this is my first grow so I was thinking of a platform barely larger than the footprint of the tent. I know that wouldn't help with humidity much but my guess is it'll be better than a cold concrete floor.

I should mention the grow tent is in my basement in the Pacific Northwest

A seedling mat will help a little if you have one. Would need to be set on a thermostat like the heater.

you can get a 10” x20” mat and a thermostat for 30-40 usd on eBay or amazon. Unless they don’t deliver in your town.

Dont forget about sealing up windows and putting plastic over them to stop drafts and keep temps up in the room you have the tent in. I personally HATE running the heater if i know it just gets wasted. Idk something to keep in mind. Insulate the hell out of it

edit: just wanted to add that in my experience having low humidity isnt horrible, but keep in mind the plant will be drinking a looot more so the chance of building up salts in the soil is higher

If you are going to grow in the same location... build your future platform or build with expanding in mind (modular). Insulate platform. If you have mice issues, put steel wool around perimeter.

Hps and MH lights are great for heating..run a inkbird to control heat and cold.

I'm stuck in the basement and it gets cold. My hope is to make a small room within the basement just barely bigger than the grow tent. I actually have a PVC skeleton just that size from my DIY grow tent attempt... I bought a proper grow tent 2 daya later lol.

wow im really glad i saw the part about you trying to make your own diy tent. Ive been thinking of doing that exact thing because i want to be able to have different plants in different parts of their life cycles in the same room. What happen to make you say screw it and just buy one? Ive been going through it in my head and still seem to get stuck on how im going to possibly set up an exhaust fan, make sure everything is lightproof, and what material i want to use for the covering.
