Seeds are expensive! Whats the best way for me to make my own?

Hello. Thank you for making this site a very active forum where I feel my questions have the greatest chance of being answered. I have a small 2x2 tent and I would like to incorporate an annual indoor seed grow into my growing cycle. Small space I know, but I've never had more than one plant growing at a time in this small tent. Is there anywhere to purchase matched (gender) sets of seeds? Such as 4 male and 4 female seeds? Will I just need to get lucky buying un-sexed seeds and hope for opposites from 4 plants in the 2x2? Is seed gender even able to be accurately assigned? Do seeds have a predisposed gender, or can environmental conditions during seed germination affect the plants gender? Would cultivating my own seeds once annually under ideal conditions year after year lead to less potent plants due to general lower genetic stress? Your knowledge and ideas are much appreciated if you choose to enlighten me on these questions. Does it really take high stress plant training in order to breed plants and seeds which may develop and create higher levels of THC genetically while growing under controlled conditions?

You just need one male. In a typical reg pack, you will get roughly 40% males, but it varies by pack. And of course you have to grow them out to see which you have.

You can also use colloidal silver on one branch and force it to produce pollen, which will create seeds on the other flowers. Just search colloidal silver in the forums.

Note that all seeds produced using colloidal silver will produce feminized seeds. This is probably best for your style of growing. Every seed will be a female, and be as close to the mother as you can get without taking clones. One plant can produce hundreds of seeds.

Edit: I just saw the end of your question. No, you don't need to do the stress method to force the plant to hermie (become a hermaphrodite). You can do it with colloidal silver and avoid the stress.

Thanks for replying. I will definitely study up on the colloidal silver technique. If this method of creating seeds is used year after year, will the seeds eventually become less potent? The reason I'm not so interested in clones is because I think with that method I would need to be growing all the time from plant to plant.

FYI there are tons of very fairly priced seeds on the market. From $40-$70 a pack from breeders you will easily get fire buds from. You don’t need to buy $200 seeds to get good weed. One of the cheapest breeders I’ve used is named K.C.Brains and I’ve grown his stuff twice, both times the packs had great plants in them.

I make seeds every grow. It's not hard at all. I have bought regulars of many different strains. Mostly landraces and IBL's. When I grow a pack I hope for both male and female plants because I want to make more seeds of that strain to save and never buy again. So far I've done that with many strains. I take a pack of 5 regulars, grow them, hope for both male and females, pollinate a female, and end up with hundreds of seeds of that strain by starting with just 5 seeds. I've yet to pop a 5 pack of seeds and not get both males and females. I've also used the pollen to make crosses with other strains and now I have dozens of crosses I made.

There is a thread on seed production 46 pages long. I suggest you read through it as most questions have already been answered.

Also, if you choose to go the feminized seed route I advise you to use the STS "Silver Thiosulfate" method . It's more reliable and requires only 2 - 3 sprays total instead of spraying for a couple weeks using the colloidal silver method. I'm not saying the CS method is bad but it requires much more time spraying the target plant.

Good luck.
