Don't mean to bring religion into this but lets not stand divided but united under god. I pray for all. True freedom is overcoming from those who condemns you.
There were and probably still are Tibetan monks who were worked to death building dams in useless places, most died, some were released 20 years later and some made their way to the Dali Lama just over the border to Dharamshala India. He would receive them and hear of their stories where they told of watching friends die over the years and were subjected to much cruelty and beatings. Once the Dali Lama asked one monk if he was in any danger? Oh yes the man said, great danger, of beginning to hate my captors and tormentors, to think I might have lost compassion and understanding for them! Psychologist, psychiatrists and neuroscientist who work with the Dali Lama became interested in these people who survived 20 years of Hell unscathed and psychologically unmarked by the horrific experience.
They did not struggle, they lived in compassion mode, their training had allowed them master their minds, to decondition, not just their accumulated lifetime of mental social/emotional conditioning, but even that conditioning that rides on an instinctual basis. Because they did not struggle they survived and even thrived psychologically. Death has no dominion if one does not fear it as we instinctually do, it is the only real way out.
In order to understand our enemies we must first love them, then we can defeat them. This is not necessarily malicious, but by defeating evil efficiently we reduce human suffering and that is the objective. Others first and you can play loose with the rules, provided you are aware of your intentions and true motives with crystal clarity, it takes intention and training though. When you put others first and your intentions are thus clarified, you have the wind of compassion at your back and it is a mighty breeze, a warm one.
