Should Trump be prosecuted after leaving office?

Rudy Giuliani has discussed the possibility with President Trump that Giuliani could receive a presidential pardon, according to a report in The New York Times.

The Times reported Tuesday that the two men had the pardon discussion as recently as last week, though the newspaper said it is not clear who first raised the matter. It reported the two discussed the possibility of Trump preemptively pardoning Giuliani, who has not been charged with any crimes.

Of course he is going to pardon all his criminal enterprise. How else was he going to pay back for all Giuliani's legal 'help'.

She is smart, but is she a lawyer? Experience as a prosecutor? She would merely provide a narrative for right wing media and become another Hillary with a decade of hate and lies thrown against here. If she was caught jay walking, Lindsey would hold a years worth of senate hearings on it and it would become a national scandal of biblical proportions amid cries of "lock her up"!
Having a educated woman of color as clickbait is very productive for the Republican agenda.

She is sharp, but 2 years as a congresswoman in DC does not merit AG. Im looking forward to her first statewide election. I think she has a bright future.

Hannity urges Trump to pardon himsel. Fox News host Sean Hannity Sean Hannity said on his radio and television shows Monday that he thinks President Trump should pardon himself in order to avoid a potential prosecution from the incoming Biden administration. The conservative host referred to an op-ed by a former member of the special counsel's office, Andrew Weissman, arguing for Trump to be investigated and potentially prosecuted by the next administration.

"If that's what they want to do, if Biden ever became president, I'd tell Trump to pardon yourself and pardon your family," Hannity said on his Fox News show late Monday.

His comments came days after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), one of Trump's biggest allies in Congress, also urged the president to pardon himself and those around him. "President Trump should pardon Michael Flynn," Gaetz said during a Fox News interview. "He should pardon the Thanksgiving turkey. He should pardon everyone from himself to his administration officials to Joe Exotic if he has to.”

Winning and retaining power is the most important thing right now and there is a lot of soft talk around Trump among the democrats and media. Nobody wants to get the republican base excited and united behind Trump, not until after the Georgia election, they are divided now and there is trouble for them in Georgia. Biden's post election approval polling has improved and Trump's has diminished, his intransigence is costing him them in Georgia and the margins are razor thin. Since Trump is not on the ballot the republicans figure many of his hard core supporters won't show up for the run off election. It appears to be having the opposite effect on democratic voters, Trump trying to steal the election in plain sight and beyond any reasonable doubt, has motivated them.

They will continue to soft sell prosecution of Trump until after the election, this will help to keep Donald from going off the deep end and prevent the base and party from uniting to defend the great leader. Donald appears to be digging a grave for the republicans, only their racist and bigoted base can save them from losing those seats in Georgia. I've seen some real fucking republican wingnuts on TV in Georgia, they are all white racists with a clear agenda. Most either don't care about democracy or the constitution, or even understand it, many are Trumpers for a reason, they are stupid racists, nothing more.
Georgia being the Kingmaker?
Who would have thunk that bunch of peach growers would hold the future of this Nation in their hands?
But, for better or for worse they do.
If they vote Republican & tilt the Senate, it will again be as Obama stated on The Late Show with Steven Colbert last night, just throwing sand into the gears and at least 4 more years of Mitch McConnell doing everything he can to stymie Biden, a fellow American I might add (get my point) that was overwhelming elected by FUCKING AMERICANS!!!!!
If McConnell tries to pull the same shit again that he pulled on Obama with Biden, he better up his security.
Enough is fucking enough.
Fuck Republicans, now is not the time for their petty, selfish bullshit.
GO THE FUCK AWAY!!!!!!

The latest,

"Here's how it would work:
Both chambers meet Jan. 6 to approve the Electoral Vote.
If one senator and one house member object, it goes to a vote in both chambers on whether to accept the objection.
If both chamber approve the objection, the House delegations (1 vote per state) decide the election.
If both chambers reject the objection, the motion dies right there.
If the chambers split, the election defaults to the Electoral College vote."

Barr: No evidence of fraud that’d change election outcome (apnews.com)

Barr: No evidence of fraud that’d change election outcome

WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General William Barr said Tuesday the Justice Department has not uncovered evidence of widespread voter fraud that would change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

His comments come despite President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the election was stolen, and his refusal to concede his loss to President-Elect Joe Biden.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr said U.S. attorneys and FBI agents have been working to follow up specific complaints and information they’ve received, but they’ve uncovered no evidence that would change the outcome of the election.

“To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election,” Barr told the AP.

The comments are especially direct coming from Barr, who has been one of the president’s most ardent allies. Before the election, he had repeatedly raised the notion that mail-in voter fraud could be especially vulnerable to fraud during the coronavirus pandemic as Americans feared going to polls and instead chose to vote by mail.

Last month, Barr issued a directive to U.S. attorneys across the country allowing them to pursue any “substantial allegations” of voting irregularities, if they existed, before the 2020 presidential election was certified, despite no evidence at that time of widespread fraud. That memorandum gave prosecutors the ability to go around longstanding Justice Department policy that normally would prohibit such overt actions before the election was certified. Soon after it was issued, the department’s top elections crime official announced he would step aside from that position because of the memo.

Full Coverage: Election 2020
The Trump campaign team led by Rudy Giuliani has been alleging a widespread conspiracy by Democrats to dump millions of illegal votes into the system with no evidence. They have filed multiple lawsuits in battleground states alleging that partisan poll watchers didn’t have a clear enough view at polling sites in some locations and therefore something illegal must have happened. The claims have been repeatedly dismissed including by Republican judges who have ruled the suits lacked evidence. Local Republicans in some battleground states have followed Trump in making similar unsupported claims.

Trump has railed against the election in tweets and in interviews though his own administration has said the 2020 election was the most secure ever. Trump recently allowed his administration to begin the transition over to Biden, but has still refused to admit he lost.

The issues Trump’s campaign and its allies have pointed to are typical in every election: Problems with signatures, secrecy envelopes and postal marks on mail-in ballots, as well as the potential for a small number of ballots miscast or lost.

But they’ve also requested federal probes into the claims. Attorney Sidney Powell has spun fictional tales of election systems flipping votes, German servers storing U.S. voting information and election software created in Venezuela “at the direction of Hugo Chavez,” – the late Venezuelan president who died in 2013. Powell has since been removed from the legal team after an interview she gave where she threatened to “blow up” Georgia with a “biblical” court filing.

Barr didn’t name Powell specifically but said: “There’s been one assertion that would be systemic fraud and that would be the claim that machines were programmed essentially to skew the election results. And the DHS and DOJ have looked into that, and so far, we haven’t seen anything to substantiate that,” Barr said.

He said people were confusing the use of the federal criminal justice system with allegations that should be made in civil lawsuits. He said such a remedy for those complaints would be a top-down audit conducted by state or local officials, not the U.S. Justice Department.

“There’s a growing tendency to use the criminal justice system as sort of a default fix-all, and people don’t like something they want the Department of Justice to come in and ‘investigate,’” Barr said.

He said first of all there must be a basis to believe there is a crime to investigate.

“Most claims of fraud are very particularized to a particular set of circumstances or actors or conduct. They are not systemic allegations and. And those have been run down; they are being run down,” Barr said. “Some have been broad and potentially cover a few thousand votes. They have been followed up on.”

Statement of Trump Legal Team on Bill Barr’s Comments on Voter Fraud

“With all due respect to the Attorney General, there hasn’t been any semblance of a Department of Justice investigation. We have gathered ample evidence of illegal voting in at least six states, which they have not examined. We have many witnesses swearing under oath they saw crimes being committed in connection with voter fraud. As far as we know, not a single one has been interviewed by the DOJ. The Justice Department also hasn’t audited any voting machines or used their subpoena powers to determine the truth.

“Nonetheless, we will continue our pursuit of the truth through the judicial system and state legislatures, and continue toward the Constitution’s mandate and ensuring that every legal vote is counted and every illegal vote is not. Again, with the greatest respect to the Attorney General, his opinion appears to be without any knowledge or investigation of the substantial irregularities and evidence of systemic fraud.”

Newsmax, it's a fantasy being promoted by rightwing media that should be removed from cable and might be one day. That will not happen, the election results are clear and certified by the states. If they tried it, it would be game over for the republic and probably would end in their deaths, if the military took over at Biden's request, and they would. They might even get to use those firing squads while the constitution was suspended and Joe restructured the government then reset the constitution. If you try to kill the government, the government will kill you, even if the constitution has to be suspended while they clean house. Do this kind of fucking around and bad things will happen very quickly, all bets are off when the constitution is so violated and civil war fomented.

he can't pardon himself.
People (some) wanted someone to shake things up a bit. Trump is that someone. He is willing to push boundaries like no one else. But then he only thinks for himself, doubt anyone else would be as selfish. His pardon power will be tested but until it is it will give the guilty a chance to get away before the law can nab them. While it is not as good as a real pardon, if you do not mind living in Cypress then it serves its purpose.
