Please help with seed choice

Have been having awful luck with germination. I think it 50% me and 50% old seeds. They sprout then die. What is the freshest strain to buy? I'm cheap and I've always bought the cheapest seeds. But am gonna spend a little more this time if someone can recommend strains that are continually being produced for seeds. I'm sure I've bought seeds that were years old. And am sure that makes a little bit of a difference. Thanks for any help. I order from The ATT. always.

You would have to email the directly to find out, and that's only if they're willing/able to tell you.
How do you germinate them? Paper towel, soaking, straight into the medium?

Buy seeds in original pack with a number then check their year with the company. Just buy direct from any good company, they trash old seed so it's always fresh.

If they sprout and die that's not the sellers fault.

Jiffy pellets .. but not next time. Jiffy pots for the next time. I may be soaking them too much. I do have better luck when it's fall or spring. Idk

Not sure I agree with that. Am sure fresh seeds are more vigorous than year old seeds. Well .. pretty sure.

Straight into the medium is what I should say. Should I try rockwool this time?

I use jiffy pucks, those compressed peat pots can restrict the roots. They pretty much have to stay soaking wet to dissolve/be soft enough for your roots to get through. I learned that the hard way.
If the expanded jiffy puck is dripping when you pick it up it's too wet. Give them a gentle squeeze before you put the seed in to remove excess moisture. If you keep them under a properly sized dome you shouldn't need to add water to them until after the seed has germinated and the sprout has broken the surface.
You can also use sst, sprouted seed tea, to encourage germination if you think the seed is old.
For what it's worth some strains either won't sprout, or will have extremely low germination rates if you plant them less than one or two months after they were taken from the plant, or if you didn't cold stratify them. Seeds that are a year old should be at peak viability. I store my seeds in the fridge, and they seem to germinate just like usual years later.
Hope this helps.

Let's back up. If they sprouted and died thats you not the seeds.

Let's talk about your seed prep and care.

You can buy the freshest seeds in the world. If you can't keep them alive it doesn't matter.
.
So what is happening right before they die?

Are they falling over and then dying?

Are they sprouting and then drying up?

What does it look like?

It got real cold on the 5th day of planting. The temp dropped to 64 and they might have been saturated in the Jiffy pellets. They actually are starting to straighten back up now so Idk what to think. Not sure if they are alive or not but they are growing super slow. They should be an inch taller than they are. They are an inch tall and have been for 3 days. But they are responding to the light. It'll be this time next year before they finish at this rate.

Yes .. thanks .. that does help. I always felt the peat was too compact. I need to know the easiest medium. Am still thinking rockwool although I have sponges but just haven't tried them. No jokes please .. haha

Most of my questions are answered in the forums. And I had no idea this account was 10 years old .. wow. But something I never see much about is the age of seeds. I did see a video on Utub where dude had 6 pellets and they all were 2 inches tall on day five. That seems unreal to me. Bet those were under a year old.

No, there are a lot of sock accounts on this site though lota fake people. Look at the 14 posts he has he knew the account was 10 years old said it less than a month ago himself. Just another troll. That’s what happens here one account gets banned and then here comes a “new member” that happened to join many years ago but never posted asking easy ?s Like this and trolling threads
