Homeless in America during COVID-19

What the actual fuck? People are more concerned about landlords and corporations than people, we're talking literally living breathing human beings, men, women, and children; tossed to the street. What is this communist russia?? Look at how people that live there view a similar situation, the people that made the money still wish it was that way, and the people that died in the streets are dead and can't speak for themselves.
I for one live in America and am proud of it but I expect more from my government and my fellow countrymen. We need to avoid people in the streets because most of them are decent people that tried their best and ended up short. If a few leeches end up doing what leeches do, it seems like a small price to pay for our people just trying to live the American dream.
Why not? If some 17 year old fuckhole can kill two people in defense of some stranger's gas station and get an assload of money and be considered a patriot and hero by nearly half of the country, we have really lost the fucking plot.

This confuses me? I am concerned with the people. As I believe most are. Those "leeches" are why those people fell short. And they are the reason the "American Dream" is nothing but a pipe dream. You are born into privilege here. Otherwise you will most likely never be without pure luck or screwing people over to get there.

People in the street peaceably are democracy at work. Are you saying sit down, shut up and like it? Not sure.

People are taking the issues on by pieces. Too big a problem for one pronged fight.

Looks like my local wally world. Still gun carrying idiots parading at them.

And that woman should have been denied firearms permit just by appearance. Truly deranged.

While I agree that all of these factors are related and people work hard to have what they have but I'm not saying they have to bite the big one and lose out. What I'm saying is that we have the ability to change our budget, change our allocated money and help those in need.
As for people going out of their way to start shit; that needs to knock right the fuck off. All those people should have been at home. Every. Last. One. We need to be there for each other not fighting in the streets.

Sit down and shut up? When the fuck did I say that. I'm saying somebody do something not sure where I confused you. I'm saying people seem to think lazy fucks piggybacking off the system is the cause here when in fact it's more like people getting caught up.

You were obligated to a debt to the country at birth. Your birth certificate is a financial document. I.D.ing your indebtedness.

You did not say that. Said "We need to avoid people in the streets...." Not sure what was meant. TY for the clarification.

Just debating and conversing to gain a bit of insight. No wish for contempt or animosity. It is our current short coming. We common goals. We must come together. That's the real challenge.

Maybe if I say my experience here it will clear my view. I live in an area with a booming economy and plenty of jobs for those who actually want them. My wife and I work hard for our family to survive. Since our area is booming they think rent can be sky high. Well it can't.
Earlier this year I was furloughed, working in aerospace we took a big hit when travel was shut down. I asked if I should just get another job and was told by my employer no, just go home collect a check and we'll call you back to work. Well since I made decent money I was unable to file for claims that week and had to wait before receiving unemployment. So I waited and waited and waited but never received unemployment.I was unable to reach anyone at the unemployment office and never received any information towards what was going on. The only information I was given is wait up to 30 days to be processed. After 30 days I was approved and received my first payment. During this time my wife lost a large amount of her hours at work being in the package foods industry. She was able to receive some supplementary income but missed out on all the hours she would have gotten in overtime normally.
During this time all of our bills started to fall behind and some places willing to work with us but others not. Once money started coming in again I was able to catch up bills most of the way. At the time I was getting things caught up I was called back to work.they called me back to work saying I could do full time but then there was not work and I only got a partial check. This partial check kept me from getting unemployment. This partial check had insurance benefits taken out of it and was not much money. This also coincided with a yearly shutdown that my wife's work does every year and kept her out of work for almost 2 weeks. Supplemental income did not cover this.
My employer said that they would cover my insurance because of the issues I had with unemployment and cut me a check. They failed at this and the check never materialized. Almost another month back at work and I had received almost no pay. I found a new job and started making more money immediately. But being so far behind it has been hard to catch up all of our finances.
What I'm trying to say is I'm one of those people doing my best but has had a shit hand every turn this year.

It's too bad you didn't have a klansman daddy who left you $400 million plus.

Sorry. I was lucky enough to be in an industry that has benefitted from this shit show or I would likely be in the same shoes. Keep at it and I hope for the best for you and your family.

Not belittlement. But join the crowd. Week 16 and no unemployment for my wife yet. Approved and all hurdles and hoops cleared. Then it will be $240 after taxes. Less than half. Insurance was lost. State is overwhelmed. No contact after leaving the speaker phone on for the entire day on hold for 6 days. Insane number of jobs available. All part time, no benefits and most $10 or less per hour. All through temp services. No actual living wage jobs now. Our courts are already over booked on pending evictions. My friend Larry the repo guy is working like never before. Only job I know involving overtime and decent pay. Beyond management level positions you are screwed here. I believe abroad as well.

We must stop fighting amongst ourselves. And you are demonstrating an entitlement based upon your better than average wages. Was an illusion. Only entitled you to go further in debt and lose more of what you labored for. It is a known cycle. Every 7 years or so the financial world takes everything back and makes us start again with less. And we are happy to continue being exploited.

I never said better than average. I made decent money as in not minimum wage. Seems like even fast food in this area doesn't pay minimum wage these days. What does it matter when a 2 bedroom apartment is 1400 a month and if you want to move you have to have a flawless credit score?
Sorry to hear you've had struggles as well. It's tough for me to hear because a lot of people in my area seem to be less impacted than I. I have only talked to a couple others in similar situations. A lot of people seemed to make out fine with that extra 600/wk unemployment. Guess that's what happens when you get the 1200/wk right off the bat instead of 800/wk hella late.
It's some frustrating shit.

I made $25 - $50/hr as a contract high end painter. Became very arrogant. Destroyed my wrist as an employee for $18/hr. Insurance threw me off workers comp because I refused their nurse manager access to my doctor. Legal by law on my behalf. Claimed refusal of treatment. No unemployment. 7 years and third attempt at disability. Had to agree to 38% + costs for a lawyer.

You got the $600? Not available here. First come first serve. Was gone the first day.

Rent is $1000/ month for a studio here. More than unemployment for the month.

People need to avoid credit. Cars and houses only. I did. And we will make it. As I watch renters move out around me. And new cars on flatbeds going down the streets as they are taken. All those look at me folks got a hard lesson. Not so interested in look at me anymore.

So my two cents. For the landlord subject, at the end of the day they too still need to pay their rent. I'm referring to the landlords with the American dream of owning a house. Not the cooperate ones. Times are hard and a lot harder for people that was already living in poverty. There should of been some compromise on maybe a lower rent, there are a lot of factors to consider.

I don't know about other people but I was once on welfare and I have to say F that shit. I see the mentality that they impose on you when you need help. I don't see how someone can live off of $200 a week in this day of age without being a slave just to pay bills. I made a stand and went to college and haven't looked back. I've worked hard to propel my career and learned to save money for a rainy day. I got rid of that stupid teenage mentality where being cool or a gangster was the thing. That's not going to help pay the bills. Also I do understand there are other circumstances where these liberties are not granted to all, another subject by itself.

Where I live, last week a few houses burned down and now about 40 people are out of a home just because of a candle. This is just really a sad thing to see. I don't really feel too sorry for the people that just want leach off the system and get everything for free. Look at all years we work and pay taxes. The government needs to do more now but we trump in power complaining about voter fraud. There are kids out there that is not going to get anything for Christmas because all their parents income are going to paying bills. We should be thankful for what we have and don't look down on those who have less. Maybe be even more a good neighbor ?

Bottom line is we live in a country with fucked up ideals and time to make a change and promote equality not racism and fucked up policing. Why should and unarmed person die at the hands of police for some bs reason. They need to go to jail for murder. I think I'm just going to stop here.
