Switching to HPS

Hello,
I currently am experiencing some type of wiring issue with my almost brand new COB led light and am waiting for help from the owner to resolve the issue. It is my first grow and I am discouraged. This has me thinking of switching to a reliable proven lighting to have some homegrown eventually since my lights are severely hurting my ladies because they're not on sometimes when they should be. It is a small 2x2.5ft grow tent so I was thinking 250 watts for non led? Any help would be appreciated!

315watt CMH would do you great! If too much money then a 250 hps will do ya just fine. it will get hot in there though. If you have the cash then a REAL led setup would be great.
If you can deal with the heat then you cannot go wrong with hps. its cheap and very proven.

i just did the math....a 250 should do you great! you wont need any more then that.

250 hps or 315 cmh should be great. Im with you brother, stick to what has been well proven. When a ballast or bulb goes out, they are stupid cheap to replace and its just a quick trip to the grow shop if you need it that day. When you have problems with your thousand dollar led board.... yeah nothing is simple about getting that fixed.

It's from a reputable company and I like the concept. I'm just not experienced with electricity yet but am learning to adapt for the future.

$300 for 210ish Watts of LED so I don't really want to take a chance on HLG or Spider Farmer until LEDs progress even further.

It's an awesome light and design. I like that it can be repurposed and is quite efficient. I reccomend it. I just need something to keep my ladies going while I educate myself.

I highly recommend the 315 cmh, I haven't priced them vs 250 hps, but it's the better choice unless you find a 250 much much cheaper. I'm constantly amazed by the sheer quality of bud my cousin produces from his 3x3 315 cmh tent, so much so that I finally decided to try out CMH myself. Don't get me wrong, cost is a big factor for me as well and I have no doubt I'll head over to the LED side sooner rather than later, but you will love the cmh bud.

I think we could say with no doubt that Timber lights are reliable. It is unfortunate that you ended up with a bad one. My first 1000 watt MH/HPS would not fire the MH bulb but would fire the HPS. In the end had to return it and got another which worked perfectly. I get that you are frustrated but to say that the Timber is unreliable because one light had a problem is unfair to the product just like it would be if I said MH/HPS are not reliable because I ended up with a bad one. I am sure @RainDan can help you out. While I don't own a Timber I have heard nothing but good things about him and his lights. If you do have the funds to buy a 250 I would do that. I kept my 1000 Watt MH/HPS in case my HLG 600 goes down one day. Never hurts to have a backup. Hope it all works out for you man, it does suck when ones light causes problems but don't let it sour you to your light.

Because I have little experience I am keeping an open mind to all technologies to see for myself. Timber has been awesome and I'm positive it will be a simple fix or change. My heart drops when I take a peak in the tent and it's dark and the light flickers. I waited a long time to buy it and still feel I made the best choice for my needs. Everyone has a life outside of work so I'm being patient. In the mean time I would like to explore temporary solutions as things are matured.

That's a great attitude bud and I fully understand your frustration. I would feel the same way if my HLG 600 went down on me. When you said "switching to a reliable proven lighting" it sounded like you were put off the light and I just wanted to reassure you. I have 3 blurple lights, my 1000 watt dimmable MH/HPS and even a little Mars Hydro 100 watt light I got for next to nothing after winning a coupon. I have had the chance to unload them but I won't. Find yourself a decent alternative that will get the job done like at 250 or 315 if your budget can handle it. As a grower who clearly want to succeed you will be much better off when you have a working light and a backup in case of emergencies.

This is a hobby of passion, therapy and fun for me. I appreciate everyone's help and this communities support for Timber is a big reason why I went with him. Happy Days everyone!

I am having a tough time finding 250watt hps or cmh set ups..least I have seen is 400w and 600w. Should I look into T5 or other lighting to reach 250watts?

Is this company reliable?

Look into a 315 CMH.

Fixture

Bulb

combo pack thats a cheaper brand ( i would go sun system/philips personally )

Do you think the 315cmh will work well in my 2x2.5×7ft tent? My exhaust fan has a max airflow of 60cfm. I have no experience with them. Or is it better used with increased space?

Thats not much airflow.... Thats 63w/sq ft which is on the higher end. You will most likely need more airflow.

It's a 2x2 space. That's 4 square feet, which will be well covered by 120 watts of 301B, so you're talking about 100ish bucks. Try being less of a drama queen.
