Loss of smell, curing with boveda62

Hey,

so I’ve recently cropped (it’s my second time ever), and it smelt lovely when I first put them in jars. I had bóveda62 in from the get go, they’ve been sitting at 63% humidity for a week (jars unopened). I was curious to see what it was like, so I cracked one and it’s like the smell is deteriorating. I read that if you have the packs in from the start, there is no need to burp jars etc.

it was all going so well, I was super happy with the flower I grew and it was truly something to be proud of for a second time. It’s only been in the jars for a week, am I just being too hasty? Will that fire smell come back after a couple more? It’s bummed me out man.

After a week from being pulled out the drying tent. Placed in jars and burbed. I stick a 62 in the jar. Seal and forget. With a random shake of each jar prevent the bud compacting from gravity. I store jars up to two years. But I try to use it up before a year.

Smell? Slightly different but its definitely there.

I suggest putting hygrometers in jar only - monitor where rh falls and “ step “ it down by means if burping / laying buds out for a bit to ensure you are properly dried before using boveda or integra packs. Those humidity packs are for storage , as their only function is to push / pull “ some “ small degrees of moisture... they don’t inherently help curing. Learning to cure / reading rh in jar without is better . Boveda are for long term - storage for months for example. I do perpetual grows and they keep harvests for months by keeping Rh static .

There are actually 58’s that are better than 62’s in my opinion.

62s work fine for me and don't mess with smell. I find if buds are not fully dried the smell decreases in the jar, or if the buds are pulled too early the smell is gone before drying is even finished.

Basically what I'm saying is that in my experience humidity packs are never the issue, there's always something else going wrong if you lose the smell.

I hadn’t burped the jars. I’ve been doing it every day now and most of it is getting its smell back. It’s still got 2 weeks curing left. Hoping that will sort it out

I’ve got them in all the jars :) been sitting at around 63%, didn’t realise I had to exchange the air in the jar still. Hoping it comes back, ~2 weeks curing left

I’ll try it without the packs in some jars next time and compare the difference

Thanks for all the help btw guys, i just smoked a joint of it and it’s lovely :) fingers crossed it all turns out like that

My house seems to be drier than some peoples I guess. When I filled my mason jars they were about 65%. After burping them down to between 55 to 58 they are now anywhere between 51-62. They are all sitting within 2 feet of each other for at least a month +. I have one jar that I use to smoke from and when it gets low I open another jar and move a few buds into it. This is just to minimize opening of jars. The only Bodiva packs I have now are 69% that I use in my cigar humidors.

they should almost feel crunchy. i check them every day until i'm confident they are dried out correctly. if they feel wet or "too fresh" they need to dry more. you might be able to get some of that dank smell back if you burp em and get em dried out properly.

I like to take a big nug and crack it in half. If the stem snaps, it's def dry. if it bends, it's too wet. don't bother testing with tiny exposed stems, they will dry out quicker than the thick ones in the tops. Once those are just slightly crunchy, you're golden.

I just opened a jar that's 8 months old. Its been kept in an ice chest.Coldest part of the house.

Opened all 9 jars. It's more a pop then a burb. The smell on some. (Same plant) comes across as lemon grass. Lower buds. The colas in other jars. The order I filled jars.

Smells like weed. One 62 pack per jar. Which is still soft. Not crunchy feeling.

I need to tweak my pre jar game(?) The "burb" was loud....

Yeah I was just feeling the ones thst smell different, and they ain’t crunchy on the outside. Got them all out on a plate to dry out. Maybe that will help, cheers mate
