Light strips are a superior option as far as light distribution and canopy penetration..I’ve really never been a fan of the boards..I think for the money you can’t beat the cheaper Chinese lights.. that’s where the guys at he needs cheap..

qb144? I couldn't find any american models of qb96. I'd be afraid of having a burnt board ordering from knock-off sites.
@Bosgrower Do you know of a better light I can buy in increments? Maybe I should just use the metal halide until I can buy everything I need for the four qb144's? I was thinking I'd buy one SP150, use it on the opposite side of the metal halide, then either get 2 more sp150's or the QB144's as soon as I can. Efficiency wise that might not be ideal in the beginning, but it would work right?

Here's the QB96. But you're gonna need more height with those.

Thanks for link, its an 80inch high tent so I may be ok. How many QB96's would I need for my 5x2 space? I could afford 3, but will that replace a 600 watt HID? @PJ DiazHere's the QB96. But you're gonna need more height with those.

That's debatable, plus most strips don't have added red 630 and 660 nm diodes. I'd like to see the better/cheaper Chinese lights you speak of, which are dimmable up to 200watts, for only $125.

IMO 3 QB96's at 120watts each would be ideal in that space, or you could get away with 2 at 160watts each but would need more headroom. HLG makes a prebuilt version on a slightly larger heatsink which will go up to 225watts: https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/lamps/products/hlg-225

Ask @PJ Diaz that one. I just got mine. I ordered 6 on Black Friday because I got them for like $55 a piece with shipping. I love the versatility they allow. You can always get more and run them on a lower wattage for a better spread.
I don't have any experience with COBs. Just boards and HID.

5x2 is a weird size for a 600w IMO. A single QB96 @ 120watts will cover approx 2x2 space, so even though I would normally suggest around 450watts of QB96 to replace 600w hps, I think you're fine with 360watts in your space.

He said both lol. The right answer is the more boards the better, but what I like about the QB96's is how versatile they are. You can run one of them in a 3x3 at 200 watts or 6 of them in a 4x4 at 480 total watts.
