Getting ready for spring.

Well chiming in here from the interior of bc Canada.
I am growing at my house indoors. And don't trust my neighbors enough to grow in my yard. So I contacted my dad to see about growing at his place this summer.
He has an absolutely massive garden space. So much that he can't use it all. So I got the go ahead to plant up his yard this coming spring. The plan is. To start the babies indoors. And veg to a decent size before they move outside.
I have a limit of 4 plants. Which is legal around here.
What I am trying to figure out is what strains to run outdoors. I'm hoping to find a disease resistant stain. As well as mildew resistant.
There will be many other veggies and what not in the same area. So pests and pm are very good possibilities.

Thinking 4 different strains. I can run indica and faster flowering hybrids. Sativas are out of the question. Unless I can't find some around 8 week flowering. I'm planning to run photo period plants vs autos. As I want to maximize yields.
Snow usually arrives end of Oct to Nov. Though this past year we had snow mid Oct. It didn't stick around for long.
Semi arid desert climate. Low precipitation in the summer and fall around here.
The garden beds are drip fed raised beds.

Does anyone have some recommendations for strains.

looking at doing the same thing, but probably with autos because of a shorter growing season where I’m located. I like the idea of starting inside and moving outside when the conditions are perfect, or else building a simple greenhouse to house 8 or so plants

You could likely get away with some indca dom photo period.

Unless of course you are higher up than I.
I'd imagine anything north of prince George here in bc. Is where you might need to lean towards auto flowers.

Oh yea lol I’m a little more North, as in northern Manitoba kinda north... but I’m going to see if autos will work out, especially with a few weeks of veg inside.

For typical garden crops, planting is usually no earlier than June, then first snow can come as early as end of September but usually mid October - overnight temps are too low by then to get anything productive out of a plant
So I’d want to harvest by mid sept at the latest

i eliminated actual outdoor growing unless you want some half decent stuff to throw in a vape. the weather beats it up and rots it. the tight dense crystal nuggets goes moldy.

best way to solve a short growing season and moldy weed is use a greenhouse. just basic 2x4x8 lumber and polyfilm. have it enclosed and heated during the night at beginning and end of season and have the sides taken down during summer to allow airflow and not overheat.

just keep the rain and frost off them and you are golden. only issue would be lack of UV light from the polyfilm (not sure if you guys call it another name on here). but overall its all transparent enough to grow anything.

It’s a really good idea - I’ve thought about making a greenhouse just like that, I always have a roll of thicker 6mil poly around, I’ve used as garden bed covers to make a tunnel. I think I’d do up a tunnel design but did you have to adjust how open or closed your enclosure was every day? I wondered how it would be best setup to control the temps...

i think having a small vent up top at each end would be sufficient. just allows the hot air to blow out. and night time cold shouldnt be an issue as long as its not freezing, everything inside the greenhouse will take awhile to cool down. the soil should help hold heat during the early night.

if you are really nuts you could install a woodstove.

Haha wow that would be intense, I burn wood in the house so ya never know....
I haven’t read up much on outdoor growing, would be a first - how cold it too cold for overnight lows?

Planting close to building, dense tree line, corn.........on the East side of shade structure induces earlier flowering due to the shade of object on West side of plant. used it for years and still in very similar weather.

I will take all the advice I can get
I was planning to start them inside in April, figured that would give them time to veg under some t5s for a bit, swap to a MH if needed. I want to keep 4 in a 4x4 room Im getting set up, but want to do more than 4 plants hence thinking of giving outdoors a go

My honest opinion is that it is only as hard as you make it. I'm in dirt and happier than any other way. Just start with a good base and it won't take much more than water and top dress my way. Keep learning and don't put the stunt suit on until properly prepared. Basics.

So I have all my seeds now. And I'm having a hell of a time deciding what I want to plant.
I have.
Bubba kush 60-66 days
Hash lover 45-50 days. This one for sure
Purple haze 50-65 days
Fruity widow 8-10 weeks
Kings kush 60-66 days
Trainwreck 53-59 days
Northern lights. 55 ish days.
And tgas uva 54-60 days.
The NL came reccomended by the local breeder that I bought from. He says it performs well around here. So I will probably run that as well.
I will have 4 autos at my house. And I will have 4 photo periods out at my dads. He has far more garden space than he can even use.
