315 cmh vs led

No, the ballast is just a power supply.

@rkymtnman

Forgot about the Cycloptics (Greenbeams is no more) being another reflector that had alot of development put into it like the Grostar.
I'd never heard of that before but at the same time never tried to run a bulb vertically. I'm guessing his sentence was just a typo.

i forget exactly what the % reflectivity was but it was way higher than any other IIRC. their price point was too high though. probably why they are no more.

Some people claim that you need to switch up your Nutrient schedules when running LED. Do you have any pics that might help?
Schedules? No really schedules but I am finding that with the cooler temp LEDs there is more MG needed, but so much with the warmer LEDs. No idea why. Somebody clever might explain it and I will nod my head.

I only fertilize with one bottle so my scheduled feeding is pretty simple, but if you used half a dozen bottles like some growers, and you found it was consuming more MG or w/e it may be, it seems like you would feed more often versus increasing the amount and staying on the same schedule. This is just what I've read on these forums and I'm not a bottle grower so just dumping more might be the ticket.

This is mine. It pretty cool but was way more than I needed. Guess I looked like a sucker to the guy in the grow shop. That said I've had 0 problems with it. I believe the hood can be separated from the ballast with a little bit of doing but I haven't tried.

CMH is really over-priced in grow shops. Well, I guess everything is really.

The ballast is what decides how the bulb can be run vertical/horizontal?
They can fire either way regardless of the lfsw ballast used, vert is just preferred==== lower lumen depreciation and minimal spectral shift.

But you're taking a larger reflector loss vs hor. So probably a wash? Unless you go vert bare Phillips 3100k bulb, 240v, 1.96 ppf/w for top system efficiency. Best in the hid industry at this wattage level.

Paying extra for sun system due to the high quality Phillips Digi ballast/ bulb combo. Ballast alone is $140

Feeding more often is not a choice. You don't want to saturate your medium, of if your pure hydro you are constant. It's about balance.

Greenbeams one bounce cycloptics reflector was pretty good, tight angle/coverage to get those ppfd #s.

Funny thing, riu member was a test grower for them. He later stated that he preferred his cree cxa cobs overall..... Never gave specific reasons

it was also designed to be permanently mounted to a 8' ceiling too from what i remember.

He definitely didn't, might have been a proto? I Remember his Had a small light leak in the reflector .

Company's Later grow room schematics showed them fixed ceiling mounted for sure

Good to know. I've never gone the bottle route always seemed like a huge pain in the ass to be mixing and feeding esp with multi-strain grow plus the added cost.

Has anyone used the led/CMH combo but only ran the CMH for short periods? I'm thinking of trying this with 2 hlg 260s a few hours a day in the morning. Idea is to get the plants the UV exposure and to warm the tent up so I don't need to run a heater as much as I did during my last indoor grow.

I found 7 poly no. 10's yesterday and a assortment of poly saucers. Sadly no risers...
I had to go to a few shops to find the really big risers - i think they are 21.5''. When i brought them to the counter dude goes damn those are huge i had no idea we sell those.

I have been running a couple prism CMH ballasts and after trying a few bulbs I am sold on ushio 3000k bulbs in vivasun adjustable wing reflectors, trichrome & quality is up from my de hps, not saying my setup is better than others but it works for my situation
