5x10 led lighting

Looking to potentially do build DIY setup for 5x10 grow area. Previously I was eyeing the HLG scorpion, but after some digging looks like I can build the same light for relatively cheaper.

6 qb 288s- $475
Meanwell 600-$180
Misc. wires/frame material- $75
Total- $730x 2 lights $1440 for the entire area

HLG scorpion is on sale for $899 and comes with a 3 year warranty. Am I on the right path with the DIY or would you say go with the scorpion for the warranty, or a complete different setup? Looking to really keep lighting the 5x10 area under $2000.

Forgot heat sinks. That adds about another $150 to the DIY. Seems for $40 might as well get the premade scorpion
I use qb96s, but hlg has 3 slate heatsink and three qb288s on sale for like 279. Thats like 320 watts easy with a meanwell driver.

With QB288 v1,v2 or any other you would want at least 12 boards and sinks.

I used to have a 4x8 and use 4x double QB 260w each and that to me was ideal for 16-18" above plants.
Theres a fair bit more area in a 5x10 and I don't think a twin board kit would be great so would be inclined with triple heat sinks and boards . Giving you like 12 boards .

I have 2 slate 3s I one tent and 4 qb96 elites in another tent. Love them all!

I'd also recommend the 420h 2100c driver as you can fit 4 boards on there and you can also blast the boards if you want at 2100ma you can have them quite high from the canopy for better spread

how would you line the fixtures up? 12 boards would be 4 of the triple seat sinks.

heat sinks are 35 x 8. Readings have said people recommend them for around a 2.5-3x3. I can see this idea working with 18 288boards ( 6 kits), 2 rows of 3 of the tripe heat sinks.

Should I run each light ( 3 qb288s) off it’s own driver, or can I run say 2 heat sinks worth ( 6qb288s) off a larger meanwell driver and only have to run 3 drivers instead of 6.
Thanks for your help!

I have 2 triples and I think they don't have the best spacing... I would buy single heat sinks and space the boards out better.

The larger drivers only support 4 boards

i lit a 5x10 up with 2 bar lights from mejui. 1200 watts did great in that tent. Thats only 25 watts a sq/ft. those two lights cost about 1300 to the door.

Are you going to continue with those lights? They look awesome!
Fuck yes! these are my first flower leds. I been doing hps for 2 decades. These leds are killing hps with the spread!
Not only did i only have 25w sq/ft , i had the light to at least 30" to the canopy because of a couple tall plants. On top of all that , these plants were going in the trash before they went into the tent.
Im ditching the tent so that 25 wattts wont be near as strong in an open room but i'll be able to put them much closer to the canopy.
Currently im lighting a 5x11.5 with them same two lights....im going to build a light to put in the middle of them two and call it good.

EDIT: im adding another 240 watts to the center of the two lights and that still only gives me 25 watts a sq/ft. IMO im getting more light or just as much with 25w/sq/ft then i would with 60 watts of hps per foot. (Without the hot spot in the middle.)

What strain did you do? These lights have to be the same spec wise as all the name brand strips correct w/the 660 reds and samsung whites. Did you get the fold or something like the A8 no fold?

i got the a8 no fold when they first came out on mejui. I had thin mint, east coast deisel , chuck norris and hogs breath in there. (another big mess) The whole tent was a mess , thats why im "bragging" so much. These are plants that didnt make the cut so they were destined for the trash can....instead we just threw um all in the tent with the new lights and was amazed!

Yes, basic 3k whites with 660 red only. Not the "best" on the market but close enough for me. i paid extra for the lm301h diodes, not knowing that they were the same as the B version.

i love the size more then anything else. my eyes aint good enough to call it. My taste buds are calling it great. Its still curing. At first i was thinking there were visably less trichs but after putting them under hps for a few minutes , i cannot tell.

Why you say not best on market? Who would have a bette 600 watt strip light? How could the ones you have be less effective than lets say Gavita, the Zeus pro, or the Luxx lighting strip light?
