Huge LED diode

I was at my friends place looking at his grow and he says," look at the light I got from work. They were throwing it out".
Now it's an outside light, made for a big place like a parking lot.
The first pic is the base with the led. Next is the driver that failed. The third one is my thumb next to it for size. The last 2 are it lit up. That's real bright!

Haha yep, just a big ass COB! Was always curious how the LED street lights were being designed, guess it's just 1 big ass COB, ha, looks like 5700K (?), probably 70CRI. Someone on here might know exact chip model. I think citi makes a big ol whopper..

edit - the driver shows it can't be more than ~150W, so maybe not as big as I thought, but still pretty cool

You could replace that driver with meanwells:
Either hlg120-42A or
Xlg-150-m-AB

Both drivers are slightly stronger than the original so keep lightly dimmed.

I was sure it was whiter than 4000K so your estimate of 5700K could be right on. I've never seen this style of LED before; wasn't sure what a COB was to be honest, had to look it up. Citi makes a whopper, eh. Guess I have some research to do.

Looks like a 50 or 100 watt COB.

I messed up on the driver pic; it said 125 watts on it. My friend ordered a 125 watt replacement but not meanwell. I figured the driver failed and I had a 240 watt meanwell that will only run for an hour and then it blinks on and off, but it fires up. I brought it over and that's the driver that's lighting the LED up. Just a quick shot to see if it worked but it's likely overdriven in the pics.

Since I'm a COB newbie, I'm gonna put a few links in here for myself and anyone else who is new to them.

That's more of a tiny round led board. It doesn't resemble a COB except for being round.
Chip on board (COB) is a method of circuit board manufacturing in which the integrated circuits (e.g. microprocessors) are wired, bonded directly to a printed circuit board, and covered by a blob of epoxy.

I only veg with leds now, duck the hps and cdm ,currently running one that runs at 65000 lumens at 600 watts input, 6000w at output, but penetration is shit. No good for budding.

Haha ya I thought they made like a 5in × 5in 1000W or 2000W COB for street lights and such, but can't find it, so who knows maybe I was dreaming lol

Attached is a 600W COB by citizen, it's only about 1.5in × 1.5in, so probably similar in dimensions to what you have there, although I have no clue to what model you actually have. The level of cooling might be the limiting thing with that setup, or maybe the COB truly is only a 120W COB? Who knows
