Fan inside or out?

I’m going to be having my carbon filter in the inside of tent but I just wondered if it mattered if I had the actual fan on the inside or our?
Cheers all

Having it outside helps with giving you extra space in the tent, but put a pre-filter between the ducting and the carbon filter. I have mine on the outside of my smaller tent.

What the purpose of the pre filter?
This is my first time so I assumed if I was to have the fan on the Inside, I would have a small bit of duct between the filter and the fan, and then ducting in the other end of fan leading outside.
because of this I just thought if I extended the small piece between the 2 to lead outside it would work the same.

To keep the filter from clogging due to dust particles and whatnot. Same reason why one should be used on the outside of the carbon filter if you are sucking air thru it.

Ah sorry got you, I was thinking having the carbon filter with the sleeve on still in the tent and the ducting running outside to the fan.
To be honest I’m only growing 2 and I’ve got a 4x4 so I don’t think I’ll struggle for room but I just wondered if there’s was any other pro/cons of there than space.

The only con I see there is the fan pulling less thru the filter from a distance. It would probably need to be set at higher power levels. having the filter in, and the fan out. If the ducting is going to be short like >3ft then go for it.

I have always mounted my exhaust fan outside of the tent, and from the ceiling with rope and hooks. The fan generates heat and will add to the heat inside the tent. But every setup is different. If you have a setup that actually struggles to stay warm, the other setup might work best. Also frees up some space in the tent.
