I think of diatomaceous earth as like a mine field. They have to step on it, but they still won't die instantly. Where the hypoaspis miles and rove beetles will actively seek and destroy any enemies, including spider mites and other shit.
DE can and will kill off my beneficial predators that I want. So it's not for me.
I'm still using the same soil from 2 1/2 years ago and haven't seen a gnat in over 2 years.
