DIY Trich Watcher - Microscope Attachment

Today I am showing you something that I built to view the trichinomes on my budding plants.
You will need some kind of camera, webcam, phone, digicam whatever.
I used my Webcam that I also use to watch my grow.

You also need an old cd\dvd drive from a computer, or some kind of optical reading device like a cd player or something.

Any old drive will do.
Take apart said drive or player, remove everything you have to to get to the "lens" that is usually centered in the middle of the drive on moving tracks. All you need is the lens, if you feel like it, you can get other things from this like Motors or leds or whathaveyou.

Pictures of the lens housing. Remove the little lens, and be careful not to loose it. If you are like me and noticed that there are rubber thingies that act as support you can use one to house your new lens.
Then take your lens and use something to secure it to your camera, depending on your cameras capabilities it will auto focus or you can focus it yourself. Key is stabilization, need to get up close with the lens to the trichs or whatever you are magnifing. Luckily for me the rubber thing i found in the drive fits perfectly on my focusing thingy that goes on my cam. You can use a soda cap and drill a hole for the lens and fit that over it, or jus get creative.
Here are some pictures of the first test run of my 10 dollar webcam i got on ebay, and the lens from a cd drive i had lien around.

And Here is some of the leafs.

Well there you have it. I will try to have more pictures up when the lights come back on, hope you all enjoy this presentation from.......
